So this Easter didn't get off to the best of starts.

On Friday we had a house fire which pretty much gutted our entire loft. The rest of the house is OK apart from smoke damage, soot and just the general chaos caused from having 10 firemen rampage through your house. But it looks like we're going to need a good chunk of the roof woodwork redoing, new ceilings in most rooms (it's a bungalow), a new water tank, the whole roof relining, our flue redoing and fireproofing, all the electrics that were up there redoing and god knows what else.

The only solace I can take is that the whole house didn't go up and we managed to stop it in time.

Finally got the gas, water and electric back on. But no heating or hot water until a new tank is installed which won't be done until all of the other stuff is done. Also, the loss adjustor isn't getting here until Thursday and I'm now worried that they'll try and worm their way out of paying for the damage because the flue pipe, which is attached to the log burner my dad and I installed was most likely the cause of it. I worry that as we're not 'professionals' that could go against us. However, it's been installed for 18 months or so, so I'm not really sure.

Also, the fire happened at 3:30PM on Friday afternoon. I phoned the insurers at 4 and was told a loss adjustor would come to see us in the next 2/3 hours to arrange alternative accomodation as they knew we were up shit creek. Meanwhile the firemen said don't stay in the house as we can't be sure the roof and ceilings won't fall in. We sat and waited 5 hours in the cold and dark until at 10pm I decided there was no way anyone was going to be able to do anything then and so I phoned the bank who phoned the loss adjustors to be told they had no record of our claim and that there was no way anyone would be coming out.

Fuckers.

Now living in a hotel until Thursday at least and quite pissed off to say the least. Let's hope my insurers (Barclays) do their job though and sort us out.

Oof, sounds nasty. If you need any help handling the claim let me know - I've worked in home claims and for a loss adjuster so might be able to offer advice on how to keep things going smoothly

Hehe, gotta love the Google ads on the right for their spooky relevance. :)

That sounds utterly unpleasant, d00d; what a sucky situation. :(

Historically speaking, though, bad things that happen on Good Friday tend to turn around within a few days. Supposedly. :)

Best wishes. XX

Fucking hell mate, sorry to hear that. You're having "one of those years" by the sound of it.

Hopefully you'll have a good experience with Barclays Insurance, they did OK by us a few years back but christ, has to be the worst time for anything like that to happen because just about everyone's fucked off for Easter and has about 5 days out.

Hope it's all sorted out soon mate.

I don't think "that sucks" quite covers it. How are you doing now, Hairy?

Still waiting for the loss adjustors to come. They were scheduled to come on Friday but phoned in sick. When they eventually come on Saturday that will be 10 days after the fire. In the meantime we've no hot water, lighting or heating and have been staying in a hotel. Which has involved way too much to-ing and fro-ing as we have 2 German Shepherds.

Massive pain in the arse to be honest and we're just stuck in limbo unable to do anything until they come take a look.
