Got this yesterday and so far it's got a few really nice features. But ffffffffffuuuuuuuuu, why did Ubisoft also include all the features from the original game that really made them fucking frustrating and fiddly.

Like the poor checkpointing...

Like the randomly unskippable cut scenes (some you can, some you can't)

Like the TEARING (yeah it tears like a wet Rich Tea biscuit dunked in a cup of hot tea)

Like the ABSOLUTELY USELESS weapons (15 SMG rounds into someone's torso should at least mean they stop and say "owch" a bit, or at least dutifully drop feckin' dead!! GRR)

Like the fuckarsedly awful Sonar view.

A lot of really frustrating moments, punctuated by a few glinting glimmers of greatness. Hope the multiplayer's better than the single player stuff has been so far.

I'll be playing over the weekend and will let you know.

It looks great to me, Stevas is quite clearly full of geordie horse-shit.

Phew, glad you set my mind at ease there, because I would have worried about it all weekend. Word of advice: occasionally step out and run about for a bit to attract attention, in order to break up the monotony of all your pointing and clicking.

Also: your face is a flower.

Never actually played a Splinter Cell game. I'm attracted to this one due to the story couch co-op. Tearing doesn't affect me as much as some other members of this forum so I was wondering what the general opinion of this title was a couch co-op? It does have couch co-op doesn't it? Otherwise I might once again be making a fool of myself. Ah well.

After getting detected in a place you can't get detected for the umpteenth time, I decided to give Sam a break and see what the co-op deniable ops mode were like solo.

So I started up Headhunter as the Third Echelon chap, it's very similar to RS:Vegas's T-hunt but you only have 10 targets. At least you only have ten targets if you don't get detected, do that and another 10 need killing (I don't know what the upper limit can reach). Once you do have them down you move into another section and have another 10 to kill and so it goes. It was a lot of fun solo and I can see it being great in co-op.

I can confirm it is great in co-op, I played a few hours of the co-op story last night and it's great fun, the interrogations are particularly amusing as you can take turns smashing the suspects into various parts of the scenery :)

I saw you and Spaz playing it and all I could think was, "pity it's not four player co-op." :-)

Been playing through the SP on realistic the last couple of nights. Think I must be almost at the end. I've enjoyed it, but it's generally a far cry from the Splinter Cells of old. Has its moments.

Realising you can set up mark and execute targets, then do the melee attack to open them up has changed things a bit. Rather like some of the gadgetry... and I seem to be using it a lot more (and more effectively) than I did in the earlier games.

Hunter mode is awesome... Last Stand (at least solo) seemed utter shit.

Remember you can blow some U-Play points to pick up Infiltration mode as well, I think that requires complete stealth, detection equals game over.

Really?

U-Play... that'll be that thing that crashes every time I try to access it, right?

Grrr.

Christ almighty, where's the rest of the game?

Played through in single player and it really feels like it's been asset stripped for DLC.

Should have a crack at multiplayer or co-op sometime I guess but fucking hell it really isn't the game they previewed 2 years ago...

It is isn't it. I swear, developers must develop (hah) blinkers and just not look at anyone else's stuff. If you're going to put an Iraq bit in your game, at least go and look at something like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare first and try and be as good as if not better than that.

It wasn't the worst level in the game though. The checkpointing on that fucking lobby scene drove me MENTAL.

I'm playing on Realistic and the checkpointing is making a tough but rewarding game needlessly frustrating. Another vote here for 'Iraq worst VG level evaaaar' - I only hope it's the only one and I don't find myself back there later in the game /o

Christ, I'm close to throwing in the towel with this. Must be on the final level, played through on realistic, but this "no shadows and enemies can see you with their own sonar so you can't hide anywhere" is utter fucking bullshit. Some of it has been pretty good (unless you really loved old Splinter Cell)... but there are too many places when you have no fucking choice but to have a firefight.

I'm currently at a checkpoint where I have the time to "hide" behind a speaker's rostrum that isn't actually wide enough to tuck my arse behind, with eight grenade happy scumbags running in - and straight at me.

Incidentally, developers, the word "realistic" cannot be defined as "these motherfuckers can take twenty shots to the chest; you can take one".

'kay?

Good luck with the next "reboot". I hope it's squarely up your fucking arses.

A lot of it is just dumb.

I've enjoyed some of it, but it's been sporadic, looking back. Not tried co-op yet.

Finished it, on realistic.

First, the achievement for that is glitched, nerds are currently burning down ubisoft's forums. This will be fixed in the patch... that is supposed to fix the patch that broke the fucking game in the first place. (Why do I keep buying games by these feckless cunts?)

Second, to up the ante in anti-Splinter Cell land, Ubi thought it would be a good idea to have the enemies spawn on mass, six feet in front of you, wearing sonar goggles that reveal your position when behind walls, boxes, etc. Oh, yeah, and for any tard that forget to pick up their kit before getting on the chopper, Ubi have an additional bright idea to help them out (and fuck the player over): indestructible lights. Loads of 'em. Fucking everywhere. Not to mention a linear thirty foot long corridor, with no alternate routes, that requires the player to slide from box to box, whilst an indestructible chain gun, with unlimited ammo, and surrounded by the aforementioned lights, spits death at you.

Fuck you, Ubisoft, as someone once said.

Having got to the end, I'd have to call it an abject failure. A shocking fuck-up of a once loved franchise. Fuck knows how bad that Hobo Sam debacle was for them to restart with this poorly designed load of trash.

4.5/10 if you've ever loved Splinter Cell.
6/10 if you've ever been force-fed ritalin.

Shite.
