Say hello to me!

No spoilers but what I will say from a couple of missions in that Bungie have excelled themselves with this, awesome.

As others elsewhere on the interwebs have blabbed, so there's no point keeping schtum, my copy came from The Hut. They seem to be shipping stuff that's over the VAT limit from the UK so they're a lot quicker to deliver than they used to be, my copy shipped on Thursday and turned up this morning.

Shopto tried to process this for me, too... but I preordered it so long ago it was on my old card, and it got declined three times before I noticed their emails. :-/

My total (playing) gaming apathy atm means I didn't even re-order it yet, either. o_O (I will, though)

Say hello to me! After finishing the campaign, spending some credits and playing some Gruntopocalypse solo on Outlook.

The screenshot function does pretty things up a bit more than it really is but even so it can look very nice.

Another shot, from the in engine cutscene at the start of the first mission, only the most spoilerphobic could think it would ruin anything but it's a really nice landscape shot.

As for the game, it's probably easier if I put all of them in order of how much I enjoyed the single player campaigns :-

Halo: Reach
Halo: Combat Evolved
Halo: ODST
Halo 3
Halo 2

Yes it's top of the tree for me, really enjoyed the 11 hours and 56 minutes that Bungie reckon it took to complete the campaign on heroic.

I think this maybe the Halo that gets me playing more MP too, Firefight Versus looks like it'll be a bit like some L4D action.

Hum, it's been a no-order for me so far too, despite buying every single other Halo game on launch day. It's ODST's fault really; although I enjoyed most of it, the last third was just awful and left me with a complete sense of apathy about Reach.

I shall give it a couple of months and see if anywhere's offering it with a few quid off.

I have still got all the others to play first.

Think I will wait until it is cheap. I have zero interest in multi player.

Just picked up mine. They bundled in a free Halo Wars too, for some reason. Not complaining!

Wow...looks lovely. Plays just like Halo should so far. Actually, it feels a little tougher than the others - I'm playing on heroic, my default first run-through setting for any Halo. Perhaps to balance the fact you have a decent squad with you?

I'm amused by the fact the farmers hiding by Visegrad relay outpost were Hungarian. No surprise given the name (Visegrád).

Its arrived, really looking forward to this, ODST resparked my interest in halo after getting bored with the franchise, i do love a bit of co-op and firefight.
(hopes some of the ODST/firefly guys cameo in this game...)

Ah no three quid for you then, as for the second part I won't say anything but Buck does get a mention in the manual.

Played a few missions last night. It seems a hell of a lot better than Halos 2 and 3 (in SP) so far.

That's really nice, except I notice that Bungie still haven't hired a decent landscape designer. Rocks don't erode like that!

Reach is a strange place, it's rather on the young side at a billion years old too.

Just thought I'd give a solo bash at Legendary, yeah I think I'll leave that for a while after getting my arse handed to me.

Yeah, so far it feels like a distillation of the gameplay, landscapes and level design I love the most in the series (and that includes the absence of the Flood). Intense and beautiful.

Argh. Tempted now. I wouldn't have been but the missus is away for a few days so suddenly the prospect of a gaming session uninterrupted by demands the TV be tuned to Coronation Street looms. It's almost like she's making me buy it, really. :)

I got this today!

Didn't play it yet, of course, but the packaging/extras on the Limited Edition is really sweet. Pleased with my decision not to reach (see what I did there?) for the Legendary version, even though the figure does look nice. This was the one aspect of the Halo 3 release that I thought they fudged a little, so nice to see them get it right.

Aye, well, I did it. And I like it.

The most striking thing about it is the way that it feels clearly different to Halo 3 in a way that ODST just didn't. The combat and pacing is incredibly tight, like they've really distilled the thing down to the purest human vs covenant combat possible.

Perhaps it's just because I haven't been playing so many FPS games of late but it really feels like the combat's got a genuinely dangerous edge, the section I just played had a quite alarming encounter with a sword-wielding elite in a darkened room that was reminiscent of the original Halo in a way that I can't remember any of the sequels being: no mean feat.

And, though I don't think I'll ever be the biggest fan of their art style, I do prefer the look of it to Halo 3 and ODST; it feels like it's got less frilly, dare I say daft, edges to it.

Well, quite.

They really have tried hard to echo the original Halo as much as possible haven't they? Even the second and third levels follow a broadly similar pattern to the original.

I like the native and civilian population too, they help make it feel more like a real place.

Halo Reach, it's more Halo but better Halo, there's no Flood and the MP is fun.
