Gotta be a close call between Limbo, Geometry Wars 2 and Trials HD.

I'm not sure I could choose between them either...

Braid for me, easily.

Honourable mentions: Geometry Wars 2, BC: Rearmed, P.B. Winterbottom and Shadow Complex.

Geometry Wars 2 (I'm still beating you on two of the modes I think Hairy, get to it...unless you've beaten me again and if so please don't feel the need to reply) :o)

Trials HD would be but for me that had some serious frustration in with the joy whereas Geometry Wars 2 was just pure unadulterated fun for me. Fantastic stuff. Haven't played it for nearly 12 months though.

Some great ones mentioned (although I am yet to play either Limbo or Braid), but for me personally it would be Bankshot Billiards 2 (and if anyone can remember seeing my "currently playing" status for the few months after the game came out, they'll know I'm not joking). Reviews for it seem to have ranged from 2.8/10 to 9.4/10, lol.

I really couldn't get on with Shadow Complex, despite loving the Castletroid genre in general. Trials HD was an OK effort but still nothing new compared to Trials 2. Ditto Geometry Wars Retro - the first was the same game as the PGR2 version and number 2 was too fragmented.

I *love* Pinball FX but again, it's just pinball.

Overall I'd probably go with Limbo or Lara Croft. Or maybe Battlefield 1943.

So this Lara Croft game is actually pretty good, then?

It really is, yes. 1200 points is probably a bit steep but a tenner/5 on PSN is really fair value

I liked the demo, but the dialogue (Lara's in particular) is really off putting in my opinion.

Not that much, (In the demo anyway) but I find it really irritating for some reason.

Isn't 1200 points actually less than £10?

Trials HD definitely has offered the most value for money out of the bunch of 1200 pointers I've actually splashed out the cash for. It's superbly rewarding, bastard hard (later on) and the editor was hideously underused by the XBL community (well my friends list anyway).

Limbo - Again just sublime, and even though I've never been back to try and hoover up all the hidden globes I played it through three times and I know I'll probably have another go for that no deaths achievement.

Battlefield 1943. Proper Battlefield as I remember it from the 1942 days, on a console. Three great maps and infinite amounts of fun.

I really enjoyed it although towards the end it becomes a bit repetitive and the last 'boss' battle is a chore. Plenty of replay value too as each level can be played for exploration, high score or as a speedrun, rewarding you with artifacts and weapons.

That said, Shadow Complex would be my pick of the XBLA.

Thanks for the replies re: Lara Croft, guys.

Next one I was wondering about was DeathSpank, if I can just use the thread to my own ends a little bit longer. ^^;

I'm a bona fide Trials HD nut so it goes without saying that's at the top of my recommended list.

So many decent ones out there though, Lara Croft, Limbo, Shadow Complex, Geo Wars 2, Braid

Re Deathspank, if you've not played the first part then I'd suggest the recently released part 2 (Thongs of Virtue) as it's a better all-round game, albeit the humour isn't *quite* as good as the first part.

/2 cents

The quality of XBLA stuff has certainly got better, and it's a far better service than the PSN arcade if only because Sony don't insist on there being a demo version of everything on their store.

More often than not I've bought XBLA stuff purely based on the demo. Though I spose for Sony it probably helps them sell more crap if they don't give you the chance to try it out first.

ilmaestro: no, the first one runs seemlessly into the second, and there is a bit of back-story

There's no requirement or particular reason to *have* to play the first part, but it is the funnier of the two and obviously complements ToV's storyline

Have a look at either demo, they're good games :)

FWIW I've bought *way* more PSN games, mainly because of the ability to gift/share. My £10 on Lara Croft was a brilliant spend, as it's been shared out between my mates already. Ditto when my mate bought BF1943 - one copy of the game bought can be spread between a group of 5 and voilŠ, an instant clan.

What happens when you gift it? Do you lose access to it from thereon?

As great a feature as that is, it doesn't necessarily make a game any better. :D

Tis true. Of the stack that I've played I only keep about 3 or 4 installed (At the moment, Wipeout HD, Joe Danger, Infinity Gene). The demo scene is getting better on PSN but it's still a long way off perfect.

So, I'm guessing, you do this by giving your account details to up to five friends, so they can download all the games you've bought on their console? Don't they have to stay signed in to your account to play those games (that's how it works on the PSP, anyway)? Or is there a proper gifting option that I'm not aware of?
