Has any year-end been this condensed in terms of quality releases?

I've got Dead Rising 2, Enslaved and Halo Reach completely untouched. Dunno if I'll ever bother with the latter though :p.

Then yesterday I received Fallout. I'm still trying to find the time to play F1 and then Black Ops comes out in a couple of weeks.

Surely one or two of these games would have benefited from a post Christmas release?

i agree, it seems to be extra busy this year, lots of games were put back last year to avoid the modern warfare 2 release, i guess they arent as scared of black ops.
im still trying to finish mafia 2, enslaved, dead rising 2 and with fallout: new vegas, fable 3, assassins creed: brotherhood and need for speed on my pre-order list (possibly bond and majin and the forsaken kingdom too) its gonna be a busy one.

Shit I forgot DJ Hero 2. Which I just preordered from Amazon because you get a free copy of DJ Hero 1.

So that's both games and a controller for £87. Bargaintastic.

It's crackers!

Especially if you factor in downloadable stuff too!

Super Meat Boy and Costume Quest are both released today, I've been looking forward to both of them for ages. Fallout 3 is one of my all time favourite games, but unfortunately I can't afford it at the moment, because I have Fable 3 pre-ordered for the friday after next.

It's a great time to be a gamer, not so sure if you're a publisher. Must be a bit tough.

I think it just seems that way because of last year having stuff pushed back, as Espad mentioned. For me, the only really exciting releases have been Reach (which I still haven't played, but anyway) and Vanquish coming up on Friday (which, again, I might not even buy, but still). Maybe I need to have a harder look at the release list.

:/

There no games coming out over the next few month that I really want.
I will keep an eye on NFS and AC:B, but neither of those games is game I would buy at full price.

At the moment, I only really want one game and that is Afrika. Of course, that was never released here in Europe so the chances of me actually buying it are very slim.

Other than FIFA the only game I've bought recently is Planescape: Torment.

I will not buy any until I finish something like Disgaea 3 or Fallout 3, I'll stick to demos for my fix of the latest game that's supposed to be good.

I'm with ILM and the others on this one. This has been the least busy end of year, gaming wise, for me. Normally I'd be picking up a game a week or more, but it's gone very quiet in October for me.

November looks fucking crazy though!

I'm kinda glad that Fallout: New Vegas has turned out to be a bit of a bug-ridden, technical mess (from what I've read - savegames corrupting, frequent crashes etc.) as I was really tempted to pre-order, despite having plenty left to do in Fallout 3. Now I can happily go back to that whilst waiting for NV to become more stable with the inevitable patches, and cheaper too.

But in terms of amount of big releases, isn't it the same as it has been for the past 3-4 years? Though I suppose it depends on what type of stuff you're interested in. I tend to ignore most big releases nowadays anyway, after the hype dies down you realise most of them aren't anything special anyway. :)

Ditto. It's been an utterly rubbish year for games IMO and it's not really finishing off too well either.

Yep, worst year in living memory. None of the games mentioned inspire any anticipation for me. I'm only looking into GT5 because it intrigues me to see what they've been doing in the last 5 years, and also the latest WoW expansion because I'm a fucking addict.

This year reminds me of the Dreamcast lineup. Lots of slightly above average games that everyone else seems to absolutely fucking love but that I really couldn't love in the slightest.

I am amazed at the general levels of apathy shown in the this thread.

How is:

Dead Rising 2
F1 2010
Medal of Honor
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Lost in Shadow
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Enslaved
Fallout: New Vegas
Fable 3
Vanquish
DJ Hero 2
Rock Band 3
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
James Bond Bloodstone
StarWars The Force Unleashed II
And maybe Gran Turismo 5

Not an awesome list of games for the end of a year?

After CoD: BOps, I can't think of anything else this year that interests me. Maybe see what happens with Move.

Dead Space 2 is my next highlight. Then TDU2.

To be fair, that list does seem a little meh to me. Aside from Fallout: NV and possibly Fable 3, depending on how good that turns out. I'm very interested in DKC Returns and Golden Sun DS though (both out in December), and Sonic Colours looks surprisingly good from what I've seen.

Gran Turismo 5 is the only game I'm going to pay full price before Christmas.

Fallout: New Vegas should have a day one purchase too, but I'm not touching that until all the bugs are sorted.

Any other titles I'm after can wait until they inevitably hit the bargain bins ;-)

In all seriousness, out of that list I'd look at getting:

Kirby's Epic Yarn (but only if it's not full of Ninty handholding)
Enslaved
DJ Hero 2
Gran Turismo 5 (but only if it's not a collect-em-up)

But 1 of those is next year, DJ Hero 2 will be a definite but only when it's sub-£20 w/decks early next year and Enslaved's a rental.

Dead Rising 2 - middling sequel to a middling game
F1 2010 - bugged, 30FPS, no thanks
Medal of Honor - 4 hours of buggy single player and broken multiplayer?
Lost in Shadow - reviewing *very* badly
Call of Duty: Black Ops - after the mess that was CoD:MW2? Nope.
Fallout: New Vegas - hated Fallout 3, get on with making the next Elder Scrolls!
Fable 3 - Fable 2 was very poor - all family management, no adventuring
Vanquish - not my style of game
Rock Band 3 - Doesn't suit the single player and the track listing's poor - plus if I'm going to play a "real" guitar then I'll just play my actual *real* guitar
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood - AC2 was amazing but I didn't come out of it wanting more
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit - I don't like track-based Burnout titles
James Bond Bloodstone - Not a Bond fan
StarWars The Force Unleashed II - Not a Star Wars fan

Vanquish, Fable III, Rock Band 3 and MAYBE Smackdown vs Raw 2010 for me pre-Christmas.

Dead Rising 2 - Don't like zombie slashers
F1 2010 - Not a fan of F1 racing
Medal of Honor - Not a fan of shooters (FPS in particular)
Kirby's Epic Yarn - Would get this if I had the hardware
Lost in Shadow - Same as Kirby
Call of Duty: Black Ops - See MoH
Enslaved - Maybe
Fallout: New Vegas - Too much shooting, too much brown
Fable 3 - Would love to play this but don't have an Xbox
Vanquish - Shooter...?
DJ Hero 2 - Too expensive and requires a peripheral
Rock Band 3 - Same as DJ Here
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood - Maybe later when it's less than Ä40
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit - Same as AC:B
James Bond Bloodstone - Not heard anything about this.
StarWars The Force Unleashed II - Not a fan of Star Wars
And maybe Gran Turismo 5 - Can't decide whether I really like the GT series. The early parts are always fun, but soon you only need one car to beat everything and it gets boring.

Next year looks better, though.

Test Drive Unlimited
Rock of Ages
LBP 2
Project Dust
Ico HD
Shadow of the Colossus HD

OK, let's pretend I was still in my buy-shitloads-of-games mindset, here's my take on the list from that point of view:

Dead Rising 2 - bought the first one but didn't play it, love the idea though so would probably have done at least the same with this.

F1 2010 - Haven't played an F1 game since something like F1 World Grand Prix on the N64.

Medal of Honor - Hahahahahahahaha.

Kirby's Epic Yarn - Tempted to import this anyway, so would have been a definite purchase.

Lost in Shadow - Would have been a definite purchase.

Call of Duty: Black Ops - Hahahahahahaha.

Enslaved - Would have been a definite purchase.

Fallout: New Vegas - Only got about six-eight hours into Fallout 3, so no chance I would pick this up.

Fable 3 - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Vanquish - Will be buying this anyway, so would have been a definite purchase.

DJ Hero 2 - Wouldn't have bought it, but love the idea.

Rock Band 3 - Ditto.

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood - Eh, what even is this. Didn't the second game just come out? Either way, no.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit - Looks like a good idea for something other than a game.

James Bond Bloodstone - What.

StarWars The Force Unleashed II - Kind of liked the first one, would be tempted. Probably would have bought it.

And maybe Gran Turismo 5 - Would have bought this out of curiosity.

So seven/seventeen, feels like an "ok" number of games for a three month period, would probably increase if you consider that I'm always way more likely to be importing some RPGs or other odd games rather than buying shitty carbon-copy FPSs.

Yeah, I can see how that might come across a bit odd. I *loved* AC2 (just behind Batman and U2 for GOTY) but I've had absolutely no compulsion whatsoever to play any of the DLC. I guess I'm just not bothered about the idea of playing AC "side projects". Give me a proper sequel and I'll perk back up
