I did look for a thread, but still can't believe I couldn't see one, so point it out to me if it's there.

Let's start with "who is looking on getting one at launch?", and go from there!

Nope not even for Pilotwings but I'm quite interested in having a look at one just to see if the 3D effect gives me eyeache.

I'm happy to wait for the inevitable hardware revision a year or two down the line. Longer battery life, lighter, bigger screen, guaranteed no-boke-3D.

Huge 3DS hands-on article imminent. Maybe tonight but probably tomorrow.

Long story short - it's quite magical but not without its flaws.

Plus, expensive and 40 quid a game :/

Will that fly in todays 3 quid app culture?

Good, looking forward to reading it. Do you have to post your bit on EG first though?

Shopto are taking pre-orders for £199 now, expect a few other places to follow suit. Also, no more than £35 for any of the games.

I'll definitely get one, not sure if it'll be at launch though - depends on what games make it at launch and how well they review. I might just bite at that Shopto price, though.

Never mind the silly UK prices, I want a Japanese one - $460 for a preorder on ncsx, and who knows how much for the games! (well, about £50 for the more expensive ones) No chance of me picking one up until the Summer, at least.

Read Rich's write-up and it's got me even more resolute that a huge price drop will be required before I'll jump.

The 3D sounds like a con. It's faux 3D. It's the sort of thing that you'd expect Nintendo to do, given what they did with motion controls and the Wii originally. Lots of smoke, lots of mirrors, and lots of hungry punters willing to splurge 230 quid or thereabouts for a bunch of the same old games with some odd parallax 3D effect tacked on.

Who drank half my coffee this morning eh?

Faux 3D really isn't fair peej. It's one of those things that's ever so difficult to describe but faux-3d would be an inaccurate description I'd say. You really need to see it for yourself.

Read peej's comment before I read the article and was prepared to wade in with "well, this sounds shit" at the drop of a hat... but yeah, it actually sounds about what I was expecting, not too bad at all. Fuck you, Nintendo. Just because.

I've just spent all weekend looking at 3D tellies. If the 3DS is of the same "impressive" quality it probably still isn't for me. Definitely want to see it for myself because so far all the stuff I've seen just seems to suggest developers will only ever use a background, mid ground for action, and foreground for HUD. Which would be a shame if the thing really does do proper 3D

Big acid test I guess would be to keep switching between 2D and 3D and see which works best.

Nope but talking of 3D, might be getting my hands on a panasonic 3D camcorder soonish.

Of course I've got nothing to play it back on :)

Going 3D this week. New 3D telly is being delivered. Have already got the blu ray player and the wonky glasses so I think I'll be spending most of the week going boss-eyed.

Piranha 3D is currently the cheapest 3D BR available (£7.99) so I think on that basis alone it must be worth avoiding. That and the torrent monkey at work who downloaded a rip of P3D in 2D couldn't actually finish watching it, despite it being full of titty. So I'll skip, ta.

Nope - not buying it for 3D, more for 200hz 2D though a free £550 bundle of 3D gubbins did make the whole deal slightly sweeter.

First thing I'll probably do with it is give all the PS3 stuff a run through in 3D.

Bundled films (not including Avatar, thanks to bloody Panasonic and their daft exclusivity deal for the 3D versh) were Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs, Monster House, Alice in Wonderland, Bolt and Michael Jackson - This is it. Guess which probably won't ever have its cellophane opened out of that bunch...!

That's the one film I kept seeing being demoed on pods in stores and it looked awesome.

Not seen Alice in Wonderland yet. Gone off the boil on Tim Burton's stuff but it didn't cost anything so there's a bonus.

Might knock together an article on 3D gaming if anyone's interested - and will most certainly be covering Motorstorm Apocalypse's 3D modes

In this case it wasn't actually my decision. Regulards will know that NOTHING gets past my other half when it comes to tech spends. She actually wanted the telly despite my protests that 3D is a load of old bollocks and we'd never use it.

Still - 200hz 2D is going to be absolutely ker-lovely for gaming.

3D is a flash in the pan - it's telly hardware manufacturers and hollywood movie studios desperately looking for a way to generate a new revenue stream to a buying public who don't really want one.

I'm pretty sure a famous man once said something similar about TV itself. :)

Actually, I think that was one of the most long-held criticisms of "normal" TV, too.

3D has been (I believe) four different sets of flashes in the pan so far.

Also, it's not like HD where there is a reasonable amount of content just waiting to be digitised. Where's the content coming from?

I'd settle for developers nailing HD properly. No tearing, no wonky texturing and stop using the U3 engine to death.
