So anybody else catch the first two episodes of the George RR Martin adaptation? It's not bad and being HBO, has more than a little rumpy pumpy too...

Was a bit meh after the first episode, but I was gagging for more after the second.

It's very, very well made.

I think it's showing its budgetary restrictions- I didn't get the impression of 100,000 strong horseclan at all last night. I got the impression of a couple of dozen people looping behind the camera and joining the back of the queue.

Winterfell looks a bit pokey too.

Watched both episodes. Not convinced yet, but the second on was somehow better. I do like the intro sequence. :)
I've not read (or even heard of) the book(s?) this is based on, so can't really judge it on that.

The usual case of the books being an order of magnitude better :D

The humping is better on screen though.

Geek alert!

Very much enjoying it so far. You do have to accept rightaway that there's not going to be a lot of massively impressive vistas and CGI, given the scale and budget.

I think it's success for me so far has been more local, and the intimate, dialogue based moments the best elements so far - for instance, scenes with Ned and Robert, Cat and Cersei, or Cat and Jon Snow and Bran.

The main characters seem to have been well cast and the script has been quite solid, very true to the book in most ways. Hard to imagine Martin won't be pleased, as he's a practical guy.

Very impressed with most Starks; the kid who plays Arya is spot on, Ned, Cat and Jon Snow are very good. Rob seems a bit wooden so far.

As for the Lannisters, Cersei and Jaime feel right, though Peter Dinklage as Tyrion is over-egging it a bit for me with his ridiculously plummy enunciation (a shame - Tyrion is the best character in the series).

And the more pumping Daenerys does, the better. She's just lovely. Thank God they raised her age for the TV version so I can lust after her with impunity.

Heh :)

I think the best casting is probably Ayra, she's spot on. Jaime is next best. Cat is just far too old. How olds Robb? 20ish? Cat wouldn't be much over 35.

Ned's miscast imho. I understand wanting a big name to play Ned, and considering he's not in it for very long, the show will have established itself by the time he leaves. I've always pictured Ned as a rougher version of Errol Flynn in the Robin Hood films and given the look of his kids, that seems about right.

Oh, and Viserys is awesomely well cast, can't wait to see what they do to him :D

Robb is like 14 at the start of the books, Bill. Worth remembering though that she was originally going to marry Ned's older brother until he died.

I know, I also thought it was a shame they...

oh, yes, of course. >_>

In all seriousness though, Dany is my favorite character in the series, so I'm looking forward to it moving on a bit as far as she goes.

@bill: they've all been aged up, for one reason or another - Ned was early 30s in the book, I think, and is now 50-odd.

You're dead right about Viserys - he's superb. Appropriately loathsome

Yep, she's one of my favourites - probably my favourite storyline. Curious to see how they cope with that.

Only 14? Actually that sounds about right. It's been a while since I read A Game of Thrones (although I have read it 3 times during read throughs). Women would be married off pretty early though, look at Sansa and Joffry for example.

I guess since it's 6 years since a Feast for Crows(!) that probably means I've not read Game of Thrones for around 7 years.

The Dany story line has always seemed completely superfluous to me, there's enough going on in Westoros to keep me happy. And reading the odd chapter preview involving the Unsullied on Martin's blog hasn't changed my mind.

I often moan about films being too thorough with origins, but I thought GoT was expecting you to have read some of the books (which I haven't). Still enjoyed the first ep though and looking forward to watching more.

Got episode 3 to watch while the wife is out tonight. Apparently viewing figures were up from the first epsiode, to 2.4m in the States. BSG got about a quarter of the viewers at the end of its run that Game of Thrones is currently getting in the UK, and even the finale of Lost didn't get as many. Hurrah!

I've watched ep 3 yesterday. Liking it more and more. Some of the locations are very good, particularly liked Persian/Arabic-like architecture in this episode.

Last nights episode was pretty good, I thought. Well, apart from that fight half way through. That was just a bit too out of context.

Haven't seen last nights yet, was finishing the 4th episode. The tournament showed the budgetary limitations up IMHO- it looked like two dozen people watching three people on horse joust :)

Great episode, very enjoyable.

As for Renly and Loras:

Bean spilling?

And for some really good news. He's actually finally, really finished A Dance with Dragons, and - best of all - has confirmed it focuses on Tyrion, Dany and Jon Snow.

Yes, and I've got dance with dragons on preorder. Although given how slow he is, its over 7 years since I read any of them :)

There seems to be negative relationship between the amount of sex and quality of the episode. Latest episode was the best so far.

Hmm. I love sapphic action as much as the next man, but does anyone else think that that lesbian fisting was a bit, well, distracting? I suppose it's one way to do the littlefinger backstory...
