We haven't got a thread on here for the alternative OS for mobile devices, and I want to know what's worth installing :)

Playing around with Seesmic, & Hootsuite atm. Use Hootsuite on my netbook but my experiences of mobile versions haven't been positive.

Anything else worth looking out for?

Interested to see how Android games on Vita turns out.

I need a device for testing Android apps, and if the Vita fit the bill it'd be great.

I noticed the XPeria Play is now 150 quid sim free, at that price I'm tempted but I bet I'd never flippin' use the thing.

The joypad uses "cellphone" style buttons (clicky) but it's not bad at all.

But, having set up the emulators, I can't really think of anything I'm that eager to play.

Ah well. Yup. Good for the 150.

I'm still holding out for something tablet-ey next year but have no faith in there being a massive drop in prices. Companies are just too flippin' greedy!

Done with apple though, fo sho.

Wow, sounds like just what I need.

That Kindle Fire looks like it might be powerful enough for most stuff. The US price is pretty reasonable too.

That Transformer with the bolt on keyboard is calling to me as well.

Trip, the XPeria deal was on the O2 website. Not sure what the deal would be if you wanted international shipping on that (if you're still in Japan). Definitely the cheapest I've seen a sim-free PAYG one for.

Thanks Peej. I'll be back to the UK early next year ( the exchange rate here has been killing me), hopefully be a similar deal around then.

Probably even cheaper than that by then. I get the distinct impression the 'Play' hasn't been selling quite as well as they'd hoped - and as no one on contracts wants one, they're just dumping stock out to PAYG customers.

That is interesting given the amount of games for iOS or whatever it is called that you review rave about. What is the reason??

I have been considering getting one of these, but the fact that it isn't linked up with the PSN store puts me of a lot - and I know it will just end up gathering dust :-

More and more stuff was turning up for devices later than my 2G iPod Touch - so I had no means to review 'em. Given the thing's only 2 and a bit years old, that's not the sort of lifecycle I can afford to keep up with so bye bye Apple. Likelihood is that the iPad 1 will be next to shuffle off the support list. Shocking way to treat customers but you can't tell an AppleAcolyte that :)

Fair enough.

I like the longevity of the consoles for that very reason - but there are always people shouting for the next generation to be released a.s.a.p.

Whilst I agree with you that the rate at which Apple seems to be making it's old iOS devices redundant is slightly alarming (and I say that as much as a developer as a consumer), I'm not really convinced the situation is any better on Android. In fact, due to the model of licensing the OS out to numerous hardware manufacturers, the market fragmentation is much, much worse.

Hmmm a good reason to steer clear of portable gaming in general then. TBH it was also about not having the time to devote to portable games. Too big a book pile, and far too big a 'proper' game pile to get through to warrant the time required for a lot of newer iOS games.

I enjoyed my time with the iPod but I can't seriously see me ever bothering with apple stuff again (unless it's for work)

Just came in to post this. Best 60p I think I'll ever spend. Two of the apps won't even work on my creaking Desire (should be getting my Nexus this week though I think). but for 10p, might as well.

I'm holding out for a galaxy note in the new year but have just read the rumours of a first quarter launch for the galaxy SIII- QUADCORE!

I hate the perpetual waiting game :(

Is it possible to buy games from the Android Market before you've got a device linked to your account? I've got one of those 99 Carphone Warehouse Archos 70's but it's waiting for Santa to finish wrapping and delivering it before I can use it...

The slide it keyboard available for 10p is really good. Get it while you can for that price. It really speeds up your typing. Very intuitive, too.

Do you mean multiple Exchange accounts?

We've been looking at work for something like this, and so far drawn a blank. We're using Nitrodesk Touchdown which one of the more expensive email apps out there and even that doesnt support it.

The only way around it we've found so far is to use say, the default mail app for one account, a different app for another and so on. Think you might also be able to do stuff with IMAP, but in the end we just didnt bother.

Might be worth a look at K9 email, as that seems popular.

I've got my main gmail account and then 6 google app email accounts (one or two associated to each of the domains I use regularly). I think I can have them all in the default app, but I don't get a merged inbox showing all received emails.

Ah ok..yeah in that case I think K9 might be your answer. Seem to remember thats one of the reasons people like it (although I've not used it myself).

Fiddling around with google currents. It doesn't like it if you've got google app email addresses associated with you phone, other than that despite being very USA centric, its an interesting app.
