Anyone else planning on buying this today? I haven't got a Kinect so will be playing, à la Rez, with a pad. |
|||

I wasn't going to...but I kept hearing good things about it, particularly about the lack of lag. So yep I'm weak! I keep thinking I should probably have gone for the Move / PS3 version instead though, but standing in front of the telly waving like a goon appeals somehow. |

Kinect over Move any day of the week surely? |

The Kinect is amazing, Peej is just a hater, man. |

Well, my copy got posted yesterday so may be here today. I really loved Rez especially the first level which was easy enough for me to get scores close to perfection (but probably still way off what Retroid was getting). As the levels got harder, perfection became harder to achieve and so while I still enjoyed playing the game normally, I could never obtain that state of synthaesic zen... |

But as I've said elsewhere, waving your hands around in front of a huge screen playing this is infinitely preferable to waving an electronic glowing dildo around :) (mind you, if we DO get a copy sent from Sony I'd love to have a look at it and do a compare / contrast) |

This is going to absolutely bomb. The Kinect crowd? Those-wave-at-the-TV-to-stroke-a-pony types? And Rez is massively overrated, too. Enjoy your day, gentlemen. I'll be keeping those billy-goats off the bridge. :) |

I might head over to Tesco and see how much it is there since I forgot to order it from any of those new-fangled online store places, but I shall certainly be buying it and making it my first Kinect experience (impending release of this was p.much the only reason I bought the Kinect+console pack when I picked up a new 360). |

Nobody posted any impressions yet? Probably you're all still convulsing on the floor from the latest Eden-induced seizure. Ah well, I guess that leaves it to me to say - it's awesome! I find it quite hard to pay it a higher compliment or, to be honest, say much more about it other than - it's more Rez. Rez but about a billion times more purdy, of course - the whale/flaming bird thing at the end of the second level really is a sight to behold. And it also has the same bowel-loosening bass thump that Rez did (brilliantly, my TV speaker system doesn't let me turn the bass down and it appears to have been set in the factory to Citroen Saxo levels - my neighbours must hate me). It's mildly better structured than Rez was, in that it takes slightly more than just completing each level to see the next - which is good given that it has the same five level total as Rez did. There's also a good number of unlockables to give you reason to return to each level over and over. My only slight reservation at this stage is that I've unlocked four stages from five and whilst they've all been beautiful, entrancing experiences, none of them quite manages to recreate that same pulse-building, hypnotic sense of growing momentum that the first level in particular of the original had. But I still can't help feeling just a bit fanboy-chuffed that we've finally gotten a sequel to Rez. |

It took me three goes to get past the first level using Kinect so if anyone is thinking it's a short game use your arms instead of a controller. There's separate leaderboards whether you're playing it via controller or Kinect too. I think my right wrist has recovered from all the shooting earlier so I'll be back at it soon. I really like the cover being reversible as well, the alternate art is much nicer. |

Is there a release date for the PS3 version? I think I would enjoy a on-rail rhythm-action shooter whatever game. |
|||

play.com reckons September 16th. |
|||

Aha, still a while away then. Thanks. |

Anyone finished this yet? I'm struggling on archive five (Journey) where Lumi is in the centre of the screen and sh!tloads of purple stuff just swirls round and engulfs you; what the hell am I supposed to be firing at? |

Oneiros, if you fancy breaking your duck and doing a review... :D |

First impressions from the Kinect version of this. It works, blimey it does actually work. Not much lag (discernible but not deal-breaking) which meant that once I'd switched to control method two, I could actually do most of what I needed to with hand gestures rather than the pad. Kinect version is definitely the best for immersion. Playing this on a large telly in a dark room even with the sub and speakers set to 'be nice to your neighbours' levels, it really is an amazing game. Alt control mode on Kinect is better for me. Bringing your hands close together (or clapping) to bring up the tracer fire is neat, though of course you miss the 'cheaty' functionality of just being able to keep your finger on the RT on the Pad while locking on with the A button. Bit miffed I can't play 'online' downstairs because the game doesn't archive your scores offline, it only registers if you're online at the time (bit shit that). Otherwise it would be very interesting to compare the scores as I reckon they'd be pretty close. This is the closest evidence I've seen that Kinect can actually take up the slack for a wide variety of control methods. Firing isn't as super-speedy and responsive as jabbing a fire button but it works (makes you feel like Spiderman or Iron Man as you're constantly flicking your wrist towards the screen to unleash a chained bolt of energy). Apart from Dance Central, this is easily the nicest showcase of Kinect yet. |

PS3 version is being worked on separately but still in-house. Devs promise that the extra time spent on the PS3 version will be "worth the wait" and there's even a vague hint towards 3D display support. |

Is it churlish to complain that in a game that has just five levels, they manage to reuse a load of stuff in the last one? No, I don't think it is. Whilst I appreciate the effort that goes into making a PS3/360 game - particularly for a small team - it does chafe a bit when you realise that what you thought was a relatively limited amount of content is even more limited than you give it credit for. Not that I'm not enjoying it still or owt, I was just hoping for special things from the last level (hopes gotten up too far by echoes of 'Fear is the mind killer' ringing through my head, no doubt), and whilst it's nice, and pretty in it's own way, it's also a load of things from the previous levels thrown together ina new order to make a new level. :/ |

Turns out the final level's not too hard once you work out what's going on. As Neko says though, it's just a boss rush based on the previous four levels. As for a review: Kinect aside, this really is just Rez 2 - and I don't have Kinect. I think it's perhaps a little easier (than Rez, when using a pad), and the new purple weapon and 'release on the beat' octo-lock bonus multiplier do perhaps add something to the mix but really, your enjoyment of the previous iteration pretty much dictates how much you'll like this. Without Kinect I think I'd be feeling a little cheated by this. It is Rez 2, and in some ways I still prefer the original Rez (oh my, imagine if they patched that so it worked with Kinect too!) Completely in love with Lumi though. |

The Kinect knows when you have your cock out, you know.. |

Ulp! I'm doomed! No wonder I keep getting so much hotmail spam about viagra. |

This game any good with just a joypad? Is it all that good at all, or was it one of those "Yay it's out, let me act all hyped about it, and then stop talking about it at all a week later" types of things? Just that it's a tenner at Play.com along with a t-shirt included. |
|||

It's just like Rez when you play with a joypad. Maybe a little prettier. Get it! |
|||

Maybe even a little better than Rez. Buy it now. |

What an amazing combination of visuals and audio this game this has. Absolutely stunning! I just picked a the Socery Move bundle, but COE is the first game I have tried with the motion controller and I am impressed with how well it controls. Such a great game it is just a shame that it doesn't have more levels. How great would it be if they made a sequel that could randomly generate levels based on the music on your console? |
