It would sort out the irritating problems with autofocus systems getting their knickers in a twist. It is very sci fi.

Saw these yesterday - looks amazing but what software would you use to edit the images? Surely there'd have to be a new image format introduced or a Photoshop plugin developed?

The only extra hardware is the plenoptic lens and the silicon needed to process the image. Eventually it'll cost less than 40 to add it. Early adopters will probably pay 4 or 5 times that though.
