As featured on DQ: Dead End Thrills featuring beautiful hi-rez imagery from a small collection of modern videogames (and an article on Westwood's Blade Runner).

Wow, that is stunning.

Some of the games features (like Alice: Madness Returns and Brink) look bloody lovely on that, but aren't that great in the flesh.

A ton of potential desktop backgrounds there though.

And a great article on Blade Runner to boot. Nice find dude!

I love the Mirror's Edge stuff; that game was so, so pretty, so why did it have those crappy 'anime' cut scenes?

That's a brilliant website. I love it.

Gonna have to save a whole load of them and have them as rotating wallpapers.

This. In spades. I never understood it. What irks me is that it wouldn't have been that much extra work to model most of the other peripheral characters in the game that DID appear in cutscenes. You already had Faith and Selma, and Faith's sister - and anything put together in the game engine would've been infinitely preferably to those dreadful flash-style cut scenes. I'm replaying Mirror's Edge at the moment and I just universally skip past those bloody things (when the game lets me, of course).

As a game world it's a sublime example of 'less is more' - it's so sparse yet gives you the feeling that it's an immense landscape to explore, even though most of the time you're rigidly locked to a fairly small play area.

I seriously hope this has a sequel.

The Brink stuff is also very interesting. For a game that had such beautiful pre-production art, and such interesting looking environments, it seems a shame you never get to see 'em that much!

Wow, amazing website. The Alice stuff looks like it's definitely from a different, better game. ^^;

GTAIV stuff is jaw dropping.

Just browsing through the 'print' section. Christ, there's so much there that I could stick on the wall at home in the gaming room. Sublime stuff.

Reading the Bladerunner article, it seems such a massive shame that most of the game's original assets and material have been lost so that definitely rules out a HD revival (as does the cost of reproducing all that stuff from scratch - terabytes of artwork, models and sounds).

I guess that answers the question why a lot of revivals just do not happen. We forget that most companies and developers don't keep their assets around, and if a company folds, all their equipment, machinery and archives probably gets sold off to pay off their creditors. Damn shame.

Blimey. That really puts Forza and the like into perspective doesn't it?

Do EA still have a controlling interest in Slightly Mad?
