First PC game you ever played?

Me: Possibly Starglider, a knocked off copy, on a work PC that was only capable of EGA graphics (and no sound).

Mouse Practice, followed by Blobbo, Oxyd, Glider, Loony Labyrinth, Prince of Persia, Sim City 2000 and Lemmings. Not sure about the order. All of them played on a Macintosh Classic.

Edit: Incidentally, I think we have all the games on a ZIP disk somewhere.

I think the first proper colour game I played was (shame) Leisure Suit Larry. One copy seemed to do the rounds at work, and ended up being played by virtually the entire workforce at my first proper job. One guy was even threatened with disciplinary action over it when he spent a little bit too much time playing it during working hours.

The Quest series were great.

Mostly though I remember playing a lot of the old Infocom stuff because someone at work had thrown the entire bunch in their blue / silver boxes into a skip (on 5 1/4 inch disk) and I rescued them. Most still worked.

The first PC game I remember seeing was Wolfenstein 3D on one of the PCs at school (had always been a commodore/atari/console player up until then).

The first game I played properly was either Worms or Command and Conquer around at a mate's house on his 386 then 486.

The first PC game I think I played on a PC of my own was probably Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight or C&C: RA.

Er the IBM PC compatible is 30 years old, not 25, I was doing tech support on them 25 years ago!

Can't remember the first game I ever played on one, something pretty simplistic and in glorious CGA, possibly even on a Hercules. It would have been at the office though, a 16 year old me couldn't have afforded even the Amstrad 1512 (that was released in '86) and I really wouldn't have wanted one either.

I bet there's still a few of these that continue to work, they were bulletproof. Possibly literally.

Can't remember my first game but I remember my first patch. UFO Enemy Unknown had a game breaking bug, Microprose sent a fix in the post, even PS3 updates are quick compared to that :)

First game I actually played on a PC ? Probably Doom or Dark Forces. The first game I played on my first PC ? X-Wing. Closely followed by Duke Nukem.

I don't miss fart-arsing about with autoexec.bats and config.sys files to get games to work though.

First game I played on a PC was probably something like Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? on an old school computer.

First computer we had at home (which is still upstairs) had a fancy Pentium processor and massive 2GB hard drive. First game I played on that was Pod with it's fancy MMX graphics :)

A neat way to revisit some of those old DOS games. In your browser:
NaCLBox

And doh, trust me to use Kotaku as the inspiration for a thread. I did think they were a bit off with their '25 years of PC gaming' article.

My PC gaming probably began with Sim City at school. I remember everyone was really excited at the prospect of playing Sim City for educational purposes :-P

For my own entertainment, PC gaming has mainly consisted of Virtual Pool and Football Manager/Championship Manager. Not very exciting, really!
