Ack, seen a few videos of this running (very smoothly) and I'm wavering.

I swore I wouldn't buy this, and definitely wouldn't buy it at launch but it's actually looking OK for a Black Box job (maybe using the Frostbite 2 engine has actually helped 'em sort out most of their development and optimisation issues).

Anyone else vaguely interested?

Fuck me, do you not have any self control? It's GOING TO BE SHIT.

Just watch that avalanche race, a few times on repeat and wake up! :-)

"The USA is massive and so is our game, there is more than 300KM of road..."

Massive > 300KM

:)

No I have no self control. I bought ProStreet, remember?

(Sanity check: it's going to be pence a mere week or so after launch, innit - and it's not like November is a wasteland, release wise!)

I think I've regained my self control thanks to the demo. Holy christ it's awful.

Criterion must be thinking "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO OUR GAME ENGINE YOU MORONS!" (if indeed Black Box used the Hot Pursuit engine at all, and didn't just build the wobbly tear-filled mess themselves).

It's undone absolutely everything that was achieved with HP. Even the fact that Christina Hendricks is in it can't save this dog.

Yes, it's quite bad. Nothing seems right about it. Not feeling of the cars, not sound, and not the way it looks.
For a game that put so much emphasis on action, it's a shame that you have to break and drive slowly around corners. Drifting is almost impossible.

Yep, the handling model is terrible. It also had some seriously 'wobbly' scenery, polygons glitching in and out and flickering. Really shoddy work.

5 out of 10 from EG in a review that reads like a 3/10.

Owch.

To be expected though, despite the use of the Frostbite 2 engine, it was never really going to go any other way once Criterion were dropped from development duties.

Sounds appalling.

Wish EA would take a chance on some of their lovely mothballed IP instead of green lighting clearly terrible ideas like this.

I think I must be the only one but I didn't notice the tearing and glitching in the demo.

It also looks like a lot of fun. A lot like the original need for speed on the 3DO, especially the long straight roads.

Definitely one to get when its cheaper.

At least it sounds like Criterion are back on development duties for NFS 13.

Good to hear that Burnout is totally dead, then. Thanks, EA.

I really liked the NFS by Criterion, Burnout was great, but I must admit that I really thought that Criterion and NFS were a match made in heaven.

Do I miss Burnout?! Yeah, a bit, but NFS HP really filled that gap for me.

Shift felt like an excellent new franchise that could compete in a few sequels with (and my God have mercy on my Soul - Use the Sean Conery accent when reading this part) GT and Forza.

The Run on the other hand just felt shit for me, and a 2 hour single player campaign?! O_o
