What? No thread for this yet?

The game is available in Germany now! o/
I don't know about the rest of Europe.

I'm so out of the loop. Uncharted is my favourite series ever and I didn't even know the 3rd one was anywhere near out. Then again, I've had a 100% media blackout on it (except when EG started running that huge spoilerific ad on its banner).

Heck, isn't that a bit soon for another one?

A bit over 2 years already since the last year.

I have played the first 3 chapters now. Obviously I'm not going to spoil anything for you, but let me just say it's awesome so far. Glad I was on a media blackout.

It's just so weird how this sneakily came out. I have seen literally zero hype over it (well, no talk on here, anyway) and not even any reviews. Except now I just went to metacritic and see it's somehow got 50 reviews and all glowing.

Right, probably should go buy this.

EDIT: Bah, out November 2nd.

This is really great so far. I was on a total media blackout all the time so every location and every character is a surprise.

For a moment I thought I had encountered a game breaking bug, but it turns out I just didn't find the place where I was supposed to climb up. Probably would be easier to describe if I went into details, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

The only bad thing so far are the 8-bit shadows that seem plague almost all games this generation. That's only really noticeable when you open your guide book at a shadow falls across it. In all other cases I can blend it out.
Oh, and the aiming sensitivity is far too low for my taste. Even at max it's still too slow.

Men, this is just one awesome action scene after another. :D

Just a shame about all the shooting. It not as frequent as in UC2, but still too frequent for my liking. I'm playing on easy though so I can just run in and melee my way through the hordes.

I'm really looking forward to Uncharted 3. In fact it is one of the few games I'm willing to pay full price for!

I'm trying to avoid any forum threads on the game until I've finished the campaign as I don't want to spoil the story :-)

I can only recommend that. I bet all the coverage before the release has already spoiled half of the locations in this.

In a way I would prefer to watch this game. All the gunfights are still tedious. I've now dropped the difficulty down to very easy because I want to enjoy the game not get stuck fighting dozens of identical bad guys.

This time it's gonna be amazing. :O

Thanks to Sony shunning us it probably won't get a timely review now.

/golf clap.

So were EG being harsh with their 7/10 Sy?

I have just read it and have to say that I do agree with almost all their criticism. The game as a few flaws, but they have also took onboard some of the main criticisms of the previous games.

I would give a 10/10 for spectators and a 9/10 for players. I see if can write up a short review. It'll be a very technical review, since I think even the least bit of information about locations and characters does spoil the enjoyment of it.

Hmmm interesting.

A review would be superb but only if you've got the time to do one. Definitely sounds like my order's staying in place.

Just watched the behind the scenes movies that are on the disc. They are actually really interesting and you get to see just how much the games have improved graphically. Especially the lighting is way better now.

Also, the game probably has the best cloth animations I've seen in a game yet. For once you don't see every triangle a flag is made out of.

Played some offline co-op with my brother earlier. There were 6 story missions and some of locales were from UC2 I believe.
It has that odd splitscreen mode where one player is in the top left and the other in the bottom right. In my opinion the windows are too small. Was pretty difficult to make out enemies and objects.

My copy turned up yesterday. Odd release day but I'm not complaining.

Very much enjoying it so far, some genuinely jaw dropping moments and it all looks rather special. I think someone's definitely been stealing melee combat ideas from Rocksteady though. I actually prefer hand to hand combat in this when you're faced with a load of goons rather than picking them off with the weapons (which, like previous Uncharted games, feel really ineffective!)

Great upstaging of the next Tomb Raider game early on too.

I can see this putting a dent in my Battlefield 3 time..!

Seems it's not just me that has a problem with the guns in Uncharted 3 then

When you can fire an AK point blank at someone and they still get up and try to kick the crap out of you, but you can unleash a dizzying array of punches and kicks that will put them down and keep them down, you're going to use your fists and feet every time...!

Yes, and it's more fun that way anyway. Especially if there are bottles and such lying around. :)

Hell yes!!

SPOILER
_______________________________________

The bar room brawl at the start of the game. Sweaty east end pub, and you just KNOW how it's going to go the minute you walk in there. That fight was almost as satisfying as the fights in Arkham City. In fact I got so carried away I swear I ended up punching Sully out a couple of times (might've got swept up in things and imagined that though).

The way fights work, and also the cute little character animations when Drake is just walking from A to B (like when he's a kid and walks through the museum, delicately moving round objects or touching stuff as he passes) are just superb. Really good work by Naughty Dog.

(Sortof spoilery, although I've tried to trim out any specifics).

I actually thought the opening hour or so was quite astonishingly clunky. Whilst a lot of the details of that opening fight were very nice, the cramped interior spaces were a *very* bad showcase for the camera, which seemed, on numerous occasions, to be positioned by default in a way that completely hid the exit.

Similarly the heavily animated movement of the main character, particularly in the museum section, I found really quite annoying - it's hard just to get him to walk in a straight line a lot of the time.

Admittedly, I've probably not been helped by the fact that I've just finished playing through Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, which has the sort of silky smooth movement that Uncharted has (intentionally) never recreated.

But still, even narratively I don't think the game's opening was nearly as strong as that of the second game. Things started to improve once I'd gotten past the first section but still, surprised to find how annoying it all was.

Uncharted 2's opening was incredible. Talk about throwing you in at the deep end. Very difficult to top that.

Some of the puzzles in U3 have been absolutely beautifully designed. Never punishingly tough or vague but very impressively thought out.

One thing that's beginning to grate though is the sense of wanting to do a bit more exploration than being forced down a linear path all the time. Most of the scenics are so vibrant and detailed that from time to time you'd just love to meander off the intended path and have a better look at everything. I guess that's the difference between a sandbox game chock full of detail like AC, or a fairly linear game like Uncharted 3

The chateau escape? Lordy. Some of the most cinematic and entertaining gaming since, um, Uncharted 2, probably.
