I've never played any of the Armored Core series, but it looks like for the latest version From Software are channelling Chromehounds and it's out on 23rd March.

2 player co-op for the campaign, 5 player co-op missions with a persistent online battlefield, 20 player squads and 5 vs 5 team missions. Obviously you get all the mech customisation you can handle thrown in as well.

I hardly done any online gaming for a couple of years, but if ACV is anywhere near as good as Chromehounds then I'll be all over it :-)

Hey my birthday, what better way to celebrate it with a Chromehounds like game.

Except I have played the last Armored Core or at least tried to, I hated it so much I never unlocked a single achievement! No idea if this is any slower or more stompy but I doubt it.

I swear I can almost smell Chromehounds references in these threads.

Christ, I miss the online of that game.

The last couple of AC games left me cold, but this might be worth keeping an eye on...

I can't see it tbh, AC likes its own version of Gundam-esque "cool" too much. Would be awesome if they went that way, though.

Well it looks like it could play a bit slower than earlier AC titles because the frame rate is appalling!

Obviously demos are early code but the PS3 version sounds terrible.

The gameplay video doesn't look like the sort of mech action I want either.

Why did you link a split screen video of an old PS2 game?

What do you mean you didn't?!

That looks fairly freaking awful :(

Couldn't resist it in the end, especially as it's less than 30 quid from Shopto.

I hope I don't regret it, which strangely enough was my feeling before I bought Chromehounds and we know how that turned out.

And it is, by all accounts, slower and more stompy, so any positive impressions would have me hovering over "buy".

No impressions from me today, it didn't turn up. Not that I'd have much time to actually give it a go before tomorrow anyway.

Bit annoying though.

Played a bunch of missions, it's a bit confusing in how the whole team system works but I think I'm getting the hang of it, not helped by me dying the second mission from being clumsy and thinking "skip" on the restart was just to get past the cutscene but actually dumped me in the create join/team menu.

As the thread name shows it's pretty much Chromehounds 2 though, you do jump about a bit and it's more faster paced but I think any former CH player will enjoy it.

It's rather arcane how the menus and everything works so I think I'll spend some time doing some research online.

Sounds great, but this will have to be a bargain bin purchase as I'd also have to buy a Live subscription just for this, unless the rest of you get it on the PS3 ;-)

Are people who are playing/thinking of playing all likely to be on Live, then? I tend to only buy PS3 games these days, but would be up for getting this on 360 if a few others were.

Flex and Whizzo will both be on 360 so I'd say that is the format to go for, although I'd prefer PS3 as for the extremely infrequent online player not having to pay for online works a treat :-D

On Chromehounds me, Flex, Mad and neosalad used to play all the time. What I'd like to know about ACV is are there any team based modes where you play against the ai. I know there is 2 player co-op for the story and in my original post I thought there was going to be 5 player co-op missions too, but now I'm not so sure.

I always preferred playing against the ai in Chromehounds as human teams always seemed to find exploits in the mech builds that made matches tedious to play. The 'double, double' springs to mind!

Yeah, absolutely. I also played a bit of CH with you guys, and tedium was indeed the word during the phases where people found the latest broken build to use in PvP.

Your PS3 reasoning is completely sound, unfortunately I renewed my Live sub about six months ago, which is pretty close to the last time I used the machine properly. ^^;

Still trying to work out why some parts I've bought to replace the shite you start with (it's actually listed as JUNK in the stats) doesn't seem to want to go on my AC.

It's certainly a lot more fast paced than CH, you'll climbing buildings by jumping up them for example but it's certainly not as zippy as it could be. I nearly killed a boss machine by running around on top of it when I had jumped off a building, my weapons kept flashing up "ineffective" so I thought sod it. Got a lot of money rather than just running past it.

I hope someone comes up with a few guides for this because it really doesn't bother to hold your hand at all.

Obviously I'm playing on the 360 as well.

Edge gave it 8/10 like EG.

Sounds really interesting but I'm not liking the words fast and paced.

How does the mp work? Is it a nice long battle like ch? Once you're dead you're dead?

No idea, not played any MP yet as I'm trying to work out how things work.

If you're not doing any of the co-op, it's 5v5 with 1 person each side being commander looking at a tactical map.

This game should really ship with a manual about an inch thick!

A shameless cut and paste from a GameFAQs post that was then c+ped from this QuarterToThree thread.

This should clear up any confusion. There are two ways to attack territory Red button(conquest) and start mission.

Start Mission - the only thing start mission is good for is farming points. It does weaken who ever has a base in that region though. Unless someone is defending under the start mission button you will always get A.i.

Red button - Conquest is the only way to gain territory. You have to have enough points to launch an invasion mission. For first timers it starts out low but maxes out at 180k teampoints needed. If there is neutral territory you will go up against a team of A.I. acs called M.O.H. If you win you gain the territory. Now if all neutral territory is gone you will have to face the owner of that territory. How can i attack if no one is queued up to defend? Easy if they dnt defend after a certain amount of time their territory will go neutral and return to the a.i. in which case you can attack them to gain it. How did their territory go neutral? All those start missions lowered their AP to zero.

Defense - You can only defend if you own something lol. Now that is out the way.
Start mission defense - If you notice your territories are losing health you should run this defense. If you win the battle you gain alot of team points toward conquest plus the AP of that area goes up.
Red Button defense - If Your territory health is at 0 you have no choice but to run this defense to save it. If your win you gain a ton of team points toward conquest plus AP goes up for that area.

Problems - With red button (conquest) defense you are at the mercy of the attackers. Technically they dnt even have to attack you. They could let your territory time out then attack the a.i. But thats no fun.

Sounds like Chinese algebra. One of the reasons I gave up so quickly on AC4 was it was bloody incomprehensible. Stats with no context! Never knew what any figures pertained to in the build menus.

Really want this to be CH2 online. If it starts to look like it, may well jump in.

Done some more solo stuff and I'm still enjoying it, as I posted earlier I hated the last AC but this is certainly much better and it's not flying around at terrible framerates.

If anyone else does bother to buy it, I've recreated EuroTards from the Chromehounds days, password is boom. We can be shite together trying to work out things out.

Not exactly been on a recruitment drive, have you, Whizzo? :)

Anyone else likely to grab this down the line?

Well, really got sucked into this today. Like it a lot; found it a little too chaotic and confusing for some time, but there's a useful guide gone up: http://www.gamesradar.com/armored-core-v-beginners-guide/ seeing as the publisher neglected to explain anything about the game in the manual.

So far, joined the EuroTards team, along with two others (password is boom if you want in). Game needs people in a group, as there's quite a bit of locked content if you're trying to lone wolf it. (It's a bit like Syndicate's co-op in that way.)

Liking it a lot; looking forward to some full team games. And I've done my best to turn it into Chromehounds 2... right down to my mech names, emblems, etc.

It's already so much better that AC4 (and a lot less confusing, in fairness). Need to crack the online properly now.

Right. Group is at level 51. All 85 Order missions successfully completed. Halfway through the story. Hiring myself out as a merc.

Feeling very Chromehounds-ey. :)

I don't trade games so that'll be a yes, I may get back to it at some time but with Trials and a resurgence of BF3 it's not high on my play list.

It's a shame that the closest thing to Chromehounds 2 comes out and hardly anyone seems to have bothered picking it up.
