Just watched episode one of this after recommendations from NY and Whizzo - both of whom's opinions I very much trust.

Seems pretty good and I reckon it'll soon grab me by the balls.

My money, however, is already on the double bluff. We'll spend the entire series thinking he's working under cover for Al Qaeda but in the end he'll turn out to have been maintaining his cover for the US.

Got the first half dozen eps to watch at some point. I make a point now of not starting a US TV show unless I know its got a second season or ends properly. Think this one has been signed up for a second one hasnt it?

Its sort of 24-y isnt it?

So I powered through the entire first series over the weekend. Got my predictions entirely wrong.

Felt it lost the plot a just after half way when it introduced the other shadowy figure and I hoped the first series would conclude nice and cleanly but it didn't happen.

The fact I watched 12 episodes over a couple of days, though, tells you all you need to know.

It's quite 24-ey - I think at least one of the 24 writers were involved in this. But at half the length, there's no so much padding. And it isn't nearly as silly as 24.

It's actually not far off being 24-length given that each episode in 24 was actually only 40 minutes long and each episode of Homeland is 50-60 minutes long with the final being 84.

I see it as a more sophisticated version of 24. What it should have become before it jumped the shark.

Eh, I liked 24, for reasons quite different to this. But both have the similar "never know what is going to happen" thing about them, which I love.

I don't know if Homeland can keep it up for another season, but I hope it does!

There's one thing that makes Homeland rather different to 24 is that it's from a cable channel rather than a network so it's got colourful language and nudity.

Male Firefly fans should probably check it out...

I did love Homeland so I only point out two things I didn't like, for completeness:

1. Brody so ugly.

2. In the final climactic scene, something lucky happens. I don't like that. Lazy storytelling. Although it did allow the writers to have their cake and eat it too:

SPOILERS

They allow everyone to live, while showing that Brody really would have done it.

END SPOILERS

SPOILER - They forgot - at least so far - to follow up on the guy that was supposed to be tailing Carrie.

And they didn't answer who slipped the terrorist the razor blade.

Well yeah maybe, but they didn't explicitly show it. I still get the impression there's another mole.

I thought it was Saul at first. But now I just assume Brody did it and beat the lie detector.

Abso-fucking-lutely awesome show. Definitely compliments 24 rather than offers a direct alternative. Actually Carrie reminds me of Chloe thinking about it.

I think your double bluff thing will probably end up being right Hairy. I reckon Brody will end up sorting out Nasir. Maybe they can get Jack out of retirement .

Star of the show is Saul for me. Even when all sorts of shit is going on, he even helps me calm down with that soothing voice. They'd better not end up making him a bad guy mole (cant see it being likely what with him being Jewish and all).

Was hoping for a bit of a conclusion and/or a cliff hanger as the ending wasn't really end of season stuff, but theres loads of places they can go next season. I actually thought/was hoping he'd do it and the next season would be the fall out from it. Was expecting the screen just to go black and hear a boom.

Would have been pretty cool and shocking to have one of the two main stars die like that.

So long as they can avoid the 24 trap of becoming a parody of itself, you can easily see this could become a long running series, even once the Brody/Nasir storyline is finished.

Time to work through the Bauer collection (again) now, to keep me going until next season.

Just caught up to episode 6 of the current series (Channel 4 speed).

The show seems to be moving at a much faster pace, this time, which is good.

People seem to be complaining that the show is getting too absurd in terms of plot but frankly it always has been. This is espionage fantasy.

I'm enjoying it. Never watched 24, so I'm not finding it over-familiar as some have found.

I missed most of the first series - the final episode was my first..

Nearly every episode has my worrying Saul's on the wrong side

He never is, but damn it always seems possible

Not enough known unknowns in season 2, in my opinion and the final episode felt very contrived.

Yeah, I think they were more focused on forcing this elaborate setup for series three.

It's like they knew the revelations they wanted to end on, and then took any clumsy path necessary to get there.

Can't fault the ending scene, though. Very satisfying.

I don't really have any interest in watching the next season now. All the plot points I was interested in came to a conclusion in episode 10 of the second season. Everything that could come next seems very predictable.
