People are here packing up our stuff to take to storage until we sort out our new place. We've lost three houses at the last minute - first people changed their minds quite early in the process, the survey on the second one said it was falling over - confirmed by structural engineer, third one they strung us along for ages and got right up to exchange, then pulled out on the day.

So - we have found somewhere else, but these things take time. We'll be living in a friend's spare room for a few weeks.

Never again. It's all such a palaver. Still, if you ever pay for a removal company, stump up the extra £200 for them to pack it all !

We went with a removal company last time, and apart from the arseache of keeping them supplied with tea and biscuits (removal blokes drink a LOT of tea), it was blissful. Far better than the last few times when I've hired a van and done it all myself.

Would definitely do that again. I think it cost an arm and a leg but it was so worth it.

I hate moving house and have made mutters along the lines of "over my dead body" about ever moving from this one...

Having moved 14 times in the last 17 years it feels a bit weird to have been in the current place since 2005. Longest I've been anywhere for a while.

But I'd be reluctant to move again, even though we have to put up with drunken wankers walking through the street waking everyone up, and constant stupidity with parking - it's a hell of a lot better than listening to some fat old sow's music choices and walrus-like orgasms (actually, Tusken Raider Shouty Noises was probably nearer the mark than Walrus mating)

Cheers guys. Peej, Tusken Raider orgasms - sounds like you have had a nightmare neighbour !

After a lot of moves in the late 90s, to our flat, to the States, to various places over there, and then back here again, we've been here 11 years, so it's a bit wierd to be leaving because so much has happened in this house. We've spent a small fortune on the place over the years doing it up, had our daughter here, Jo's dad died here, etc etc.

Indeed. Well documented on here and on EG back in the day. Wonder what she's doing now. Probably fluffing American Bison or something.

I love moving! :)
Pretty much all of my belongings still fit into one backpack, though.

So stressful. I absolutely hate doing this and never want to again. I feel for you having been nearly there 3 times. 4th time's a charm, mate, so good luck!

We bought our place in 2003, bang in the middle of Budapest, and God it was a hassle, compounded by legal issues of me needing to get permission to purchase property here as a foreigner. The couple ummed and ahhed and at the last minute talked about dropping out...but our lawyer got on their arses (as she did post-purcahse, when they didn't get the flat ready in time for us to move in, fining them a set amount per day they were over - she had worked this into the contract).

The worst aspect was that as a Hungary is a cash-based culture (well, certainly 10 years ago it was), I had to withdraw the money from the bank and carry it in a bag to my lawyers. O_O. Longest 5 minute walk of my life. We then watched them count it all out. The daft bint we bought from then kept the money in the boot of her car for 3 days afterwards (we know this as my wife drove with her to the utilities etc to change names for the bills).

Damn, now I feel pretty stupid for thinking all this time that Flex was a Hungarian with a freakishly native command of English. ^^;

Moving again tomorrow. Or rather the girlfriend is moving out of our house into another. We've not split up, but will now have 2 houses between us.

Long, complicated story.

I have no idea where the 360, 50" TV or Mac will live.

So you went for the two houses/mortgages idea after all.

Haha, no chance. I'm far too positive to be a Magyar.

Természetesen :-)

And don't anyone think goualsh is a stew. It's a soup, people! My wife got me onto that and I got her onto leek and potato soup.

I don't know about the goulash, but he does know his way round some of Budapest's premier nightspots, as experienced by me !

Getting very bored with living in a single room with no geek toys or Sky :(

Still - the new place is moving along sloooowly. May be in by mid-April hopefully.

Annoyingly the people who stitched us up by refusing to exchange unless we upped our offer re-sold almost immediately. I suspect they had had a better offer waiting in the wings all along.

Cheers guys. Realised today that we made our first offer on a house in June 2010 so nearly 2 years. 2 gazumpings, one change of mind, one falling over house, and the lot who demanded another £10k on exchange day and pulled out when we refused. Never. Again.

I think if someone moved in next to me I'd unencrypt my wifi for a few days and log all their traffic with a transparent proxy.

I imagine you saying that with your little finger at the corner of your mouth and a cat sitting on your lap. Whilst the mutated sea bass swim around in your fish pond.
