Crikey a new GOW game? Can't wait, GOW3 was seriously jaw dropping in places.

Big fan of GoW - having completed all 5 games so far. Selfishly I was hoping for it to be a Vita title (surely an inevitability in itself), but more angry Kratos is right up my alley

Moved straight onto this after finally completing GOW3. I thought 3 was a great looking game but Ascension takes this to another level. It is up there with Uncharted 2 and 3 as the best looking console game I have every seen! The scale of some of the levels is immense and when the camera pulls right back the views are stunning.

Gameplay is your standard God of War fare but the developers have definitely tightened up the controls. Jumping and climbing are much improved. It may just be me but you seem to get a fraction of a second longer to press the correct button on the QTEs which make them easier to pull off in the heat of combat.

Sony Santa Monica have definitely squeezed every last bit of power out of the PS3. I think God of War on the PS4 will be epic :-)

Thanks - I wasn't so intersted in the game until I read that! Basically a more polished GoW 3 then :)

I've heard it's frustrating though how your abilities can be really limited unless you block all the time? Normally in GoW I just attack like crazy save for a few boss battles or certain enemies...

I'm not that far into the game, but the combat doesn't feel any more difficult than GOW3. I never really block that much. I find it best to keep moving and use a combination of jumping and evading to get myself out of trouble. Using the grapple and throw move is a great way to get two enemies off your back when things get a bit heated.

I suppose it all depends on what difficulty level you are on. I ended up playing through GOW3 on easy because I thought it would make the QTEs a bit more forgiving. It didn't but I found that on easy the rest of the combat hit my sweet spot of challenge and enjoyment. I've stuck with easy for Ascension and I'm enjoying it thoroughly :-)

Oh wow, that sounds great - thank you, I'd almost certainly play through on easy too so it sounds like I should enjoy it :)

Finished the story and I have to say that the game was superb from start to finish.

The gameplay has definitely been improved from GOW3, especially the QTEs which are much more forgiving. Plus the checkpoint is designed so you never have to repeat great swathes of a level if you Kratos dies. The graphics are simply amazing and the scale of some of the levels is breathtaking. This game is right up there with Uncharted 2 & 3 as one of the best looking console games.

A must buy for anybody who has a PS3!
