My son is five next summer and so far he doesn't know my consoles exist, he plays a few educational games on the Iphone/Ipad (and the odd go of angry birds) and that's it.

I'm looking forward to playing a bit of LEGO Batman with him, but i'm not sure if its too soon, my wife thinks we should wait until hes at least 5.
What age did your kids start playing console games?

Sam (6 in April) plays a bit of Lego Star Wars/Harry Potter and a bit of Mario Kart but he's a bit young to get to grips with the controls to be honest. Kinect stuff and iPad stuff are much more accessible for him.

Having said that, he's got a little mate who's 4 that's completely addicted to games. he's a bit of a loner anyway, preferring jigsaws to playing with other kids but they have to really fight to get him to do anything other than play games over the weekend.

Bill, that's a good point. Thinking about it, I don't think Aidan would be able to do the controls yet, he struggles with the superman game on the Iphone(and even angry birds a little), maybe i'll leave it a while.

Steering Charlotte away from consoles for the mo but she does play stuff (mostly the utterly fantastic Toca Boca stuff) on iPad.

Like Bill says, she's not quite up to speed with a joypad, does OK with the Wii controls with a bit of help but is all at sea with the thing I thought she'd easily get on with the most, Kinect. It's just hopeless for little ones, too twitchy, too laggy, too frustrating

Just make sure he doesn't get hooked. I kinda regret how much time I spent on videogames as a kid.

Been testing the water with my eldest (3) with limited success. He can't get to grips with a joypad, but likes colouring on the iPad.

Off the back of peej's Toca Boca recommendation, I've downloaded the free cooking one and doctor one.

He likes the cooking one and is fine tapping the screen, but pressed too hard when it comes to moving things 'round which causes the game some issues. But good progress :)
