My ASUS S2000 lappie died a month ago and after a lot of umming and arring, I replaced it last week with a Surface 3. From what I've read, the Surface Pro 4 will have a Core M, which won't be appreciably faster for what I use a laptop for, so I decided to opt for a surface 3 (ruled our the Surface Pro 3 as it's huge, hot and expensive).

Got John Lewis to price match the Currys deal of the top end model and type cover for £530. It's a lot for a laptop replacement with an Atom but really pleased with it (and I had £400 of JL vouchers sitting about).

My other half keeps going on about one, but I'll concur with The Register's findings I reckon...

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/05/18/microsoft_surface_3_review/

We've seen a couple through here already (Surface Pro though rather than the standard). Everyone loves them but that price ticket (particularly when you factor in the additional for the keyboard, extra storage and the stylus being extra too) puts it in the iPad league.

Still peed off that MS dispensed with the Wacom pressure sensitive stuff from the Surface Pro 2. That would've been one of the major reasons I'd want one. Anything that's cheaper than Wacom's own tablet offering but has the same level of precise stylus operation would've had me laying my money down for one (a portable tablet offering with that sort of tech, and a copy of Manga Studio 5 and I'd be in hog heaven!)

I was originally going to buy a Toshiba Click Mini but since JL didn't stock it, I would ironically have had to spend more cash :)

Know what you mean though, would have been much happier if it had a proper SSD rather than one of those eMMC jobs. Still, it's about the solidest thing I've owned, and I'd include the iPad 2 that the wife has in that.

Must admit, I really regret buying the iPad. Biggest waste of money ever and practically unsellable secondhand for non-pisstakey prices.

Wonder if anyone's still got an older surface pro 2 (with that glorious wacom screenie) that they're getting shot of on the cheap.

We are still rocking an iPad2 at our house which is still going strong albeit the speed at which it does things can get a little infuriating at times.

I'm thinking I'll finally upgrade it at the next round of updates later this year, and purchase a big-bad-ass-cover so that I can happily hand the 2 over to the kids.

I've got one of those too (as my tablet, opposed to, erm, my windows tablet/PC hybrid?).

I love it but the battery life, is terrible, even after lots of updates to Lollipop. End up turning it off overnight.

Thats strange. The battery life on mine is fine, at least, it last far longer than other tablets I have owned. Have you changed the power settings?

Firmware 2.2 (back in Feb) helped massively- it used to die overnight if it was left on but unplugged. Battery life has been an issue that Nvidia has struggled with if you look at their forums :/

There was an update to lollipop a couple of weeks ago. That's just when I bought mine so maybe I got lucky.

Think you might have. That update has made things *much* better :)

Did you get the controller as well?

Yes, and the cover.

Keeping my eye on the shield tv console as well! :-)
