I just went down to reception and there's now one of these sitting on my desk.

I'm so looking forward to Company of Heroes and Oblivion tonight...

Other than the preliminary benchmarks that Custom PC did with a 320meg GTS (they weren't impressed) I've not seen any others, are there any about?

Does BFG stand for what I think it does?

Trusted reviews have a look at it here
and there are some other reviews of the 320MB version knocking around on the net.

A lot of the reviews are wierd though; they are complaining that the onboard RAM can't cut it with lots of AA at resolutions beyond 1900x1200. But who really has that as an available option? Reading between the lines you can play any of the current gen games at up to 1280x1024 with absolutely everything maxed out. Since my pc is connected to my TV, that suits me perfectly; the slightly lower resolution demands AA and aniso.

Looks like it'll be fine then, some sites seem to think people want to run everything at stupidly high resolutions with more AA and AF than you could possibly want.

I hope it's good, it'll put pressure on Ati to do something similar. :-)

Yup; even if it isn't the best at DX10, I'm not planning on moving till Vista till after the first service pack, so by then there will be plenty of options for decent money. And in the meantime it'll kill any DX9 game I want to throw at it.

Poor old DAMMIT though; between the performance difference between the Athlons and Core2Duos and Nvidia's current domination in the gaming graphics chipsets, they're not having the best time of it.

I notice on some of the benchmarks the relatively small amount of RAM does the card no favours but it really needs to be at those daft resolutions to make an awful lot of difference. Having seen how well the X1950XT performs at those resolutions though I think I need to get a new monitor for my PC. However they're silly money... :-)

Looking at some more general benchmarks though and comparing AA performance to some of the earlier gen, 256MB cards, it also seems that Nvidia's driver problems with the series 8 GPUs is also playing a role; the 320bit bus used in the GTS seems to be just different enough that nvidia will need to tweak their drivers to get the maximum performance from the GTS cards. So while at thos resolutions the 640MB card will be better, both cards are due some driver-related performance bumps later in the year for high image-quality conditions.

Oh, and both outputs are HCDP enabled, so an xbox HDDVD might be on my Christmas list! No point till there are more films out for it!

IMO Higher res. > AA

And it seems to take less grunt to up the res than to add the aliasing so it's win-win :)

Well, if you'll pay for the nice 40" 1080P LCD for me then I'll happily compare the performance in the two common HDTV resolutions.

Oh, and make sure it does 1:1 pixel maping KTHX
;)

Ha! Not likely. I meant more the improvement I've seen from going from 1024x768 to 1680 x 1050.

I've read a couple of pretty favourable reviews, don't ask me where though. As it has been said in this thread, the lack of Ram only seems to do any harm in silly resolutions.

Out of curiosity, how loud is this card? The fan would suggest sound levels comparable to a vacuum cleaner (and I'm spoiled by my quiet Zalman)...

Oblivion with 4xAA and HDR looks fantastic. Didn't get to test company of heroes; I'm on my first playthrough of Oblivion and started the Dark Brotherhood quests last night, so got sidetracked from my benchmarking!

Fan is quiet - it runs at low enough RPM that I think my CPU fan is the dominant noise.
