Just picked up an el-cheapo copy of Far Cry 4. Figured I'd take the plunge on it as I actually really enjoyed FC3 (enough to finish it twice) so more of the same didn't exactly bother me.

Feels VERY slick on PS4. Lovely visuals, no tearing (NO TEARING FROM A UBISOFT GAME!!!), great mix of missions and free roaming stuff - hell, just exploring Kyrat in an autogyro is as much fun as everyone said it would be. Thoroughly impressed but I've barely scratched the surface of it, it feels like a HUGE game.

Fuck those bears though, those bears are bastards!

Actually, having nabbed the grenade launcher as a side weapon, I don't mind those bears any more. They look great exploding into the air before tumbling rather sadly down the side of a mountain on fire.

Take that, bruin!!

FC4 is great but I do miss the tits in FC3 (the ones in FC4 aren't nearly as impressive!)

Memories of the Shinsengumi on 3DS

Visual novel and presumably a love game. Came "recommended" by Eurogamer.

The writing isn't that sophisticated. And your character admits to being confused about everything happening around them, so the same kinda excuses itself from how convoluted the plot is.

You get some choices but it's rarely anything that feels important (more like "which element of the plot do you wish to be privy to as the story unfolds", and more cynically "which guy do you want to tend towards").

The feminine samurai are nice. I'm guessing nothing much happens with them considering it's a 3DS game. But I have my imagination :I

The new Dirt game is pretty great. Not too much content there yet, but what's there feels pretty polished. Can definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a serious rally game.

Was hoping someone would get in early on that one. I'm very tempted myself but have no idea whether I'd have a rig 'man' enough to run it. 22 quid though, owchers. (actually looking at the specs, it doesn't look TOO bad, I might get away with it)

Getting some rave comments and reviews on steam, heralding it as the new Richard Burns Rally (I never actually played that so can't compare the two) and saying it'll satisfy both sim and arcade fans. Intrigued. Very intrigued.

I don't know if it'll help, but my specs are

i5-4440 3.2 Ghz
8GB memory
2GB GTX 670

Personally I have no idea whether that makes my computer a powerful computer or not, but it I'm running the game with everything set to Ultra at 60fps with this resolution:1280x768 (the best my TV can do...)

Despite saying I wouldn't, I've picked up some games on PS4 that I particularly enjoyed on last-gen stuff. (And, in some cases, embarrassingly, I didn't finish them the first time.)

Restarted Alien Isolation, last night. As good as it was on 360, it's staggering on the new console. I'm hoping the shiny will motivate me to get further than Medical, this time.

The Evil Within. Man, people are back and forth on this. Some hate it, some say it was close to being their game of the year. It's on very reasonable sale on psn now. I'm dipping again, as I think it contains some of the best survival horror I've ever played. Shades of Silent Hill, Resi 4, you name it. There's an unevenness in tone sparked by such a variety of environments and gameplay styles - but I still hold this as one of the best games I played this year. Get past the first chapter or two though.

Sniper Elite 3. Still brilliant.

The Elder Scrolls Online - PS4. My eyes! Very clunky, initially, and doesn't impress the way Skyrim did. In it for the long haul, but lacks the wow factor so far.

Dragon Age Inquistion. Spent an age making an uncanny facsimile of myself in the character creation... Played the opening scene. Far more of an attention grabber than ESO, and I'm happy to hear Bioware got it right this time.

FF (numbers) online. Restarted three times as the bloody thing apparently isn't keen on saving.

Zombie Army Trilogy. Still a hoot, although bringing the action into the subway system seems a bit obtuse in level five.

Picked up FIFA 15 on the psn sale. Haven't bought a football game since Fifa '08. This win me over by letting me score a goal in the demo - something I've actually managed to repeat in the main game (Norwich vs Ipswich Derby, natch).

Spent a long time downloading Zombi last night. Jury is still out.

Picked up the Witcher for 15 from CDKeys on PC, mostly to give the new Asus Strix 980 a workout.

Fuck me it's a pretty looking game. If only the engine could be used to do a licensed game from one of the better written fantasy series out there- whilst the script is better than some it's still crap.

I've played about an hour of it, and I'm taking my time. I like it, althought it isn't a looker (and the PS4 has sure turned me into a graphics whore, of late). It's no Dying Light, but I'm enjoying the setting.

That said, the best use of England as a location still goes to Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. I've taken so many pictures of that game now. Looks aside, it's pitch-perfect (even if I do recognise one of the voice actors - which pulls me out of the reverie of it slightly).

And I'm still logging into Warframe every single day. So much game there - and it doesn't cost a penny. It's constantly evolving and updating. Is no-one else giving it a look? The co-op stuff (although I'm dippng in with randoms when not playing solo (which means I can pause it) all works really well). Sil? Flex? Anyone?

Hooked on Diablo 3 again. Started a new character on Elder Scrolls - enjoying it far more as a short-arsed elf bowman. It is oddly jarring, however, to be 6'5" in real life and have everyone else tower over me. I hadn't realised that the height thing was scaled to race when I created him. :)

Got pre-orders in for Until Dawn, Mad Max, Destiny (Taken King bundle), MGS V.

Considering Dishonoured and Nate Drake collection too.

Mad Max. Just Cause 2 (mostly) by way of Fury Road. About thirteen hours in, unlocking a tonne of stuff, and the world - now - seems beautiful to me. It's interesting to see how they've given life to a wasteland like this, but the art direction works really well. Wasn't expecting a sensational experience, but I haven't looked at MGS V since it arrived.

And the storms, man... Wow.

Until Dawn. This is excellent. It shouldn't be, it should be a hamstrung interactive movie with bad writing and characters. But it isn't. It's a stunning achievement in narrative; the graphics and animation are stellar and utterly pull you into the world. The pacing is on the money, and it's benefitted from writers who know this industry and genre tropes.

And it's made me damn near shit myself, almost a dozen times. :D Fuck, it's scary.

Yeah, both Mad Max and Until Dawn look very tempting.

You need to try to find the time to delve into The Phantom Pain - after an hour or two of gameplay it completely hooked me. Definitely GOTY and the best MGS.

I'm 20 hours in now and at 15% completion....

Also lots of love from me for Mad Mad and Phantom Pain. Probably should've have bought both but enjoying the complete difference in pace between the two (though they do share a lot of elements in that you can take a different approach with each).

MM is a lot better than some of the shitty reviews would have you believe. Anyone giving it 5/10 obviously has a boner for Furiosa and couldn't get past that.

MGSV (I keep getting caught! Maybe my reluctance to use weapons and gadgets is getting the better of me)

Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies (very linear to begin with - I mean I know these games are always "linear" but this one so far is like an on-rails experience)

Counterspy on psn might be the best money I've spent on a game in a while. Just loving it.

But the 15 I'd reserved for The Witness seems sadly optimistic now. Not sure 400 snake puzzles warrants 30 - regardless of how Myst-y-eyed I am for some island exploration.

Gone back in to Watchdogs, as my unfinished backlog of games is just embarrassing now... and the board game collection is up past the 400 games mark. Not sure how that happened.

Ahem.

Phoenix Wright remained extremely linear all the way through. There's not a moment where you need to show someone an item that the game doesn't first explicitly tell you to, first.

Man, it's got way too quiet here on Waltons' mountain.

So, I've jumped back in to gaming on the PS4 a little more, of late:

The Division: Christ, I'm hooked. Love the world, the gun-play, the RPG in a "real" world location. I'm comfortably sitting at level 30 (but 9 for DZ). I've somehow logged eighty hours of play... and I didn't discover the melee button until halfway to that point. The DZ still feels more like a survival horror game than anything. I need to stop going in solo.

Rainbow Six: Siege: I was warned it wasn't built for solo play (there's T-Hunts and some Challenge missions, but no campaign). Initially I agreed, but I'm unlocking more gear and operatives, some of whom are better than others. I'm sitting at Rank 15 now, and that's without even trying the online modes. I really like it, and wish I had more time to play it. There's some odd design choices, which seem flat-out lazy: you can't seem to select the type of Terrorist Hunt, it picks either an attack or defend on random. Plus, the Hunts don't scale for solo play; the game warns you of this. There's no possible reason for this beyond developer idleness. That said, I think it's a great game - really starting to remind me of the hours we all put into Vegas. Come play with me if you see this cheap. It's dropped to around £20 at some online stores.

Far Cry: Primal: because I'm single-handedly bankrolling Ubisoft this quarter. Only played for an hour, but I'm keen to step this up. The world looks phenomenal, and I'm very happy to have this too. I need to be able to sit down for a few hours in one run to settle in.

Salt and Sanctuary: yeah, its a 2D Dark Souls. To the point that I can't see legally how they're been allowed to do it. Art-style and systems, along with a Metroidvania system of progression, blacksmiths retooling gear, and the wanton difficulty all make this a direct "homage"/theft of From's licence.

Just ordered: Dirt Rally, as someone might have finally got the handling correct, and Dark Souls 3 is on the way for next week.

In other news, just about wet myself at footage of Sniper Elite 4. Open world, yadda, yadda, yadda...

How are we all doing then? I've not been around much lately and am only here now after getting that spam email - but it did remind me to say hello at least.

Recently I've been playing some Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3. Picked it up years ago and played for all of an hour. Stuck it on a few weeks back and its been keeping me entertained since. Its not massively impressive in any sense but, on easy difficulty, dashing about and cutting through enemy mobile suits with your beam sabre is very satisfying. You're always unlocking something new too which is nice - new character or suit or something.
