Out on friday apparently...

Here

Slightly worried that nothing's been said about it anywhere apart from a few first impressions. Am I getting this strange sphincter twitch with good reason, and it'll end up being crappy?

Apparently it is crappy sadly. Ngamer gave it 60, and they generally go over the top.

Know about this for months, peej! ;)

It had the makings of being great: exactly the type of game the Wii was made for, but it seems like it's shit. Which is a crying shame.

I'd known about it for months, but didn't realise it was coming out on friday. Even if it's shit, you'd expect a few more fanfares about it...

I setup Daisys Wii on Saturday, she hadnt taken it out since Christmas, I just dont see the point of it, Nintendo make great games but their consoles have been nightmares for third party titles since the N64, I wish they'd do a Sega, not because they have to but because their first party games are a joy to play.

PS: anyone want to buy a gamecube?

My Wii's been suffering a similar fate apart from a couple of euphoric weeks blatting round Excitetruck.

The Wii is a great machine but I'm afraid it really is going to suffer the same fate as the cube.

Possibly even more so.

Peej, EGM gave it an average of 7.3/10. It got 82% in some German print mag (N-Zone?), and IGN Aussie has a good interview with one of the producers (check out the EG thread for links). It sounds like the wiimote isn't implemented as well as we would like, but could still be fun. I guess until one of us takes the plunge, we won't know....

Edit:Aussie interview
EA TW Site

There is also a great TV advert with Tiger himself smashing the ball down the fairway. Even if the game isn't all that, the ad should sell by the bucketload.

Perhaps a Wii owner can put me straight here, but I think this game highlights the problems the Wii will face for me in the longterm. Once you have one golf/tennis/boxing game, and the only way of controlling it is to swing your wiimote, it'll be very hard for people to come up with control methods that'll make their game fresh, but still make them as immersive as Wii Sports. We have a second golf game here only a few months after Wii Sports came out, and the basic mechanic is very similar. What I'm getting at is that the innovation in the Wii is in the control method, but once you start repeating the control method it's no longer a gimmick.

Does anyone see where I'm coming from ?

The control method should be a given though after a while and soon become "old hat". It'll be the depth of a title that will be telling.

From what I can gather, the control method in TW is slightly different to Wii Sports Golf, and for me it is the 15 courses, challenge modes etc that will sell it, provided the differing controls are at least playable.

One is prepared to take a bullet for the site, and get this. Or rather obtain it by stealth means :)

It's a fair point though. The thing is, there's not really going to be that many variations on control methods that can possibly make the game any better. You're already seeing common control methods for driving games (hold the wiimote sideways, steer etc) and of course once you've rattled through all the possible methods of controlling sports titles, what's left?

TBH I don't think developers have the guts or the imagination to do anything particularly groundbreaking or different with the Wiimote and Nunchuck. But it would be nice if they could at least put some effort into getting the basics right.

There's going to be an odd parallel universe moment at some point where a game comes out on Wii which has to come bundled with a normal joypad.

I think the driving game thing miffs me a bit. You hold the Wiimote sideways, check...you steer naturally, check...you have to press one of the pissiest, tiniest non-analogue buttons to accelerate and brake...uh oh Houston we have a problem.

The Wii is immense fun but now and again I think it's a bit broken too.

Smash Bros. Brawl will need the GC / classic controller, apparently.

Wasn't aimed at you JJ! :) As Peej says, they are legitimate points. I just hope devs will look beyond the initial draw of innovation through the control method, long term

I think for the moment, most of the developers are just seeing how they can get a fast buck out of Wii owners starved for titles. Eventually though, I'm hoping there'll be the odd one or two dev teams (Nintendo are a given - just thinking third party here) who will give the Wii what it needs - more classic titles that make the console worth buying.

Pretty much the same goes for the 360 and the PS3 too of course, there's just a whole shoal of mediocre crap around, let's just hope that 2007 doesn't become "the year everyone just churned out another sequel"

I still think the Wii will do even worse than the Cube did. A different target market to some extent and an awkward controller to design for will soon have devs leaving it behind, especially when new middleware makes 360 and PS3 titles cheaper to produce. To me it will never be more than a gimmick like the EyeToy, GH Guitar and DC fishing rod were.
