Got a bit of an idea for an upcoming article and once again, my fellow droogs and tarts, I'd love some input from you.

You know the setup - you're on a desert island, yadda yadda yadda, and you're allowed to take 10 games with you plus the requisite equipment to run 'em (naturally if it's an MMORPG you get an internet connection etc).

So what's in your list? What would sustain you through months and months of solitude with nowt but a console, portable, PC or whatever to keep you company?

I'll post mine in a bit but let's see yours and a little sentence or two why you chose a particular game.

7. Tetris
8. Rallisport
9. Street Fighter 2
10. Ninja Gaiden (Just so I'd have time to complete the bloody thing!!)

FFXII - Over 150 hours of content before you even take into consideration replaying the story, time attacks, low level games, etc. Oh, it's the Best Game Ever, too.

SWOS - You've got to have a sports game in there since it's the only genre with truly infinite replayability, and SWOS is top of the shop. It actually feels like real football despite being not even close to any kind of simulation in any area and playing the last game of a title winning season on SWOS at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon is as close as most people will get to the real thing.

*Beneath a Steel Sky (PC) - it'd take me WEEKS to finish it, and it's bloody good fun
*Halo 2 (360) - for the MP action
*Guild Wars (PC) - for when I really need to be an AoE bomb on legs
*Nexus Wars (Web) - browser based MMORPG I'm currently addicted to
*Hunter (Amiga) - never managed to get anywhere when I used to play it, I'm hoping I might manage it now
*Brain Training (DS) - Keep the ol' melon active
*Sims 2 (PC) - endless entertainment
*Zelda (Wii) - I want :(
*Starcraft + Brood War
*Some sort of porno game, for if I get 'lonely'

Edit1: Swapped WoW for Starcraft.
Edit2: Swapped Monkey Island 2 for Zelda

Hmmm lemme see now

1) Starcraft / Brood War (PC) - could be there for months and probably this would get played more than anything else
2) Battlefield 1942 (PC) - The original and best.
3) Paradroid (C64) - Dunno why, just so playable and never seems to age.
4) Racing Destruction Set (C64) - Endless fun to be had just making tracks on the thing
5) Wii Sports (Wii) - The fitness thing I guess could stop me going nuts and getting too fat on coconuts
6) Tetris (GB) - Mindless, pointless but absorbing fun
7) SSX Tricky (PS2) - Again, just horribly addictive stuff
8) Project Gotham Racing 2 (Xbox) - Might even get good enough to nab all those platinums but I'd need to be stranded for 100 years
9) Sim City 4 (PC) - Another one to add to the totally mind-numbing but absorbing clutch of games
10) Lula the Sexy Empire (PC) - Look, you're stranded on a desert island with no pron - even Lula might look attractive after long enough.

Ninja Gaiden Black - Sometimes I like showing off even to myself

Super Mario World - Because it's probably the best game ever made

Pinball Dreams - Great music and a great pinball sim.

Command and Conquer - Growing a huge army and setting them upon an unsuspecting enemy FTW

Project Gotham Racing 2 - Astonishing "just one more go" achievement.

Deus Ex - My favourite FPS. I just "got it".

Pro Evolution Soccer 6 - Pro Evo in general not just 6 has given me so many good times. Shame I'm not allowed a co-op partner with me as that's how the game is best enjoyed.

Final Fantasy VIII - Greatest JRPG ever created.

Katamari Damacy - Rolling that ball around will never get old.

Ikaruga - Once I'm "done" with everything else I'll still be able to try and get decent at this.

Hm...

Guitar Hero - I never got bored with this game (still haven't bought the sequel though, odd).

PES - I might actually get good at it :-(

Starcraft + Brood War - I still pick this up for the occasional game some 8 years after I bought it.

Lost in Blue - For survival tips!

Rome or Medieval 2 - I'd have enough time to finish a campaign.

Captive - 65000 levels! That'd keep me going for a while. (as long as I had the passcode to get past the bug in the second world).

Final Fantasy Tactics - A nice meaty game that I've been meaning to get into for sometime.

Metal Slug Anthology - For a bit of light relief.

Typing of the Dead - To improve my typing (and give me a laugh - the voice overs are hilarious).

GT4 (with a DFP) - I'd have time to get through all 700 odd cars.

Final Fantasy VI
Mario World
Zelda LTTP
Zelda OOT
Zelda TP
Streetfighter II Turbo
Resident Evil Code Veronica
Final Fantasy VII (might finally get around to beating Ruby and Emerald)
New Super Mario Bros
Ridge Racer PSP

Can't be arsed to give reasons. Cos I love them all, right? And I couldn't see myself ever getting bored of any of them.

Oi oi!

Some games are just classics:
- Chuckie Egg
- Robotron 2084
- Tempest (arcade, with the spinner)

There are some that I love, but if I need to devote more time to:
- Virtua Fighter 3 TB
- Virtua Fighter 4 Final Tuned
- Virtua Fighter 5
- Street Fighter 3: 3rd
- Street Fighter 2: Championship

And I need one game with voice comms, which would make the whole desert island thing a lot easier - I dunno, Uno or something.

Uh, that just leaves one. Make it Gunvalkyrie, because I always intended to figure out how to play that game one day.

The magic of DID is the descriptions and explanations of the choices. So I will try and do this properly, maybe tonight.

10 games is a lot...

Probably a shed load of games but in reality it would be Football Manager.

I'd probably play that until I died of playing it too much. But whilst I was waiting for it to process and update and stuff I'd probably be happy playing:

1) Fifa 07
2) Dungeon Master (time trials with one character ;) )

Medieval II: Total War
I've *still* not had time to give this a proper thrashing, so I'd want to spend a few months on it.

Battlefield 2
Good wholesome, online killing.

Combat Mission
Old school, brilliant engaging operational level-strategy. With scenario editor. Suits my beard. Can I take a general's hat?

Pro Evolution 6
Stupid number of hours put into this and its ancestors, with very good reason.

Silent Hunter III
Again, not played IV, but this could keep me going for months. Also beard-worthy.

Fallout compilation
I'd finally have time to complete/get any where in it.

Super Mario World
I was a deprived child, so never got to play this (or any Nintendo/Sega) games :-(

Neverwinter Nights
Having something with a nice toolset would be fun. I could create an epic! I'd be the next Tolkien, but with a beard.

Sims 2
I could have friends! We could throw parties! I could lock them in escape-proof rooms and watch them slowly die!

Gradius V
Because I'll defeat this god-damn game before I die.

This is quite tricky - do I take my 10 "bestest games evah!" games, or try and make sure that all my favourite genres are covered?

Do I ignore a game I love like Ouendan, just in case I might have the urge to play a driving sim like GT4? Or miss out a classic game like Wizball just to make sure a decent platformer like Psychonauts or R+C is there?

Gahhh!!!!

Rubbish! I originally had VF2 and SFA on my list. And I can't believe I missed off Gradius V and didn't notice.

These are the only game you will have to play for the rest of your life! Knocking out a list of ten of them in perhaps ten minutes is like having your last wank as a ten second sly one in the shower in the morning before work.

Exactly - 10 games is too few to do quickly, otherwise you end up omitting Gradius V.

With nothing but time to waste...

Oblivion (should take a few days)
Neverwinter Nights (ditto)
Half Life 2 ('cos I haven't played it yet)
F.E.A.R (ditto)
Turrican 2
Paradroid 1990
Some sort of C&C game.
42 All time classics
Super Mario Sunshine (seems appropriate, and spending ages collecting blue coins wouldn't seem so pointless)
Team Fortress
